Using Crossline Competition as a Motivator

One of the key components to having a thriving network marketing organization is staying consistent. Your downline numbers and your sales volume will probably fluctuate, especially during your first few years in mlm. It is crucial to stay focused on your long term goals and not focus on the immediate results of your work.

One good way to stay motivated is having a "running mate"... someone (preferably in your "crossline") that has a similar size (or slightly larger) business than you. Stirring up the competition between your two groups will motivate you and your downline to focus on doing the actions to grow your businesses.

Also make sure that it is a healthy competition. If you've got teams spreading negative comments about each other it will be more destructive than constructive. This type of motivation reminds me of a recent "blog competition" between 2 superbloggers: Shoemoney and John Chow. Both decided to compete to see who could grow their RSS subscription lists the biggest in 1 month... Although they had "competing" blogs, they used eachother's success as a motivation to grow their own business larger than the other guy's.

In the end who won? By numbers - Shoemoney. In reality - they BOTH did. Why? Because BOTH of their numbers in subscriptions grew... A LOT. Each of them had to creatively grow themselves and come up with marketing campaigns to effectively grow their subscriptions. They both posted multiple blogs about eachothers site, and their search rankings (and income) shot up... So, they BOTH won.

Are you doing this in your business? I hope so. You need some one to continuously PUSH you, and not just an upline giving you the old "you can do it, buddy". Sometimes you need to be a little scared that someone is going to pass you. Sometimes you need to be a little pissed off when they do. Either way, your productivity should go through the roof.
