Using Google to Choose a New Domain Name
As we become more familiar with the internet marketing world, we soon lose sight of the fact that most of the population have a hard time with some of the basics.
For instance, I was reading in another forum last week where a new guy to a business opportunity was having difficulty with deciding how to create a domain name. That is, he did not know what to name his new website.
So a part of this discussion here is what I did recently to name one of my new websites.
The actual website was selling a membership to stay at luxury resorts where each member could purchase unlimited one week accommodation at next to wholesale prices. The membership also offered discounted travel and cruises.
So with that in mind, I decided to come up with a domain name that used keywords that were highly searched in google. Keywords that would paint a picture of what my website was about. Such as travel, holiday, accomodation ..... notice these are very broad general keywords, afterall, you don't want a domain name too hard to remember.
Anyway, my next step was to go to google's external search tool at https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal as shown in the image here;

The next step was to enter my keyword into the field that says "Enter on keyword or phrase per line" and then to type the characters of the image into the field below the image before pressing "Get keyword Ideas".

Google will then search it's database to come up with keywords and search volume statistics as shown in the image below;

As you can see, I've circled the approximate search volume for the month of February. In this case for the keyword "holiday" google had over 16.6 million people search for the word "holiday".
My next step was to repeat this process for the keyword "Travel". The results of which are shown in the image below;
.jpg)
As you can see, there were 151 million people searching the keyword "travel" for the month of February.
The last keyword I decided to consider was the keyword "accommodation". The results are shown in the image below;
.jpg)
As you can see, there were 2.7 million searches for this keyword; however, if I searched for the plural word "accommodations" I was surprised to see 7.8 million searches were performed during the month of February as seen in the image below;

Altogether using these three keywords I have a combined reach or possible audience of just over 175 million people for the month of February.
So now all I had to do was to combine each of these keywords into a domain name.
This is how I came up with the domain name HolidayTravelAccommodations.com
Now, just one final point. Eventhough I have a somewhat popular keyword-mixed domain name, these three keywords would not be keywords that I would use in a google adwords campaign. Mainly because I would get far too many untargetted visitors. Meaning, I wouldn't get buyers, I would most likely only get browsers. These keywords are far too general. There are far better keywords to use and that will become a subject of a future article.
Have Yourselves a Great Day.

Steve
