Want more Success? Learn to be Proactive
Everyday in our lives situations happen around us. Some are positive and some are negative. How we respond to those situations will determine if we achieve success and happiness in life.
Your response to situations can be classified as either a REACTIVE response or a PROACTIVE responsive and thus will determine what type of person you are.
A reactive person is one who is ruled by emotion. Everything is the fault of others or the environment around him. He is quick with excuses and complaints. A reactive person tends to focus on things that he has little or no control over instead of those which he can influence. A reactive person does not take responsibility for his own failings. A reactive person’s success is LIMITED.
A proactive person keeps his emotions in check because his values and decision to do what is right, is stronger. He is not ruled by his emotions. His behavior is a function of his decisions not the conditions around him. He has a free will to choose his response to every situation. A proactive person takes initiative to make positive changes in only those area where he has influence. He does not take on a negative attitude and complain about those things which he can not influence. A proactive person achieves great SUCCESS!
In network marketing, we are confronted with negative situations and set backs on a daily basis. Our response in those situations reveals the type of person we are and will determine if we succeed or fail in this industry.
How would you respond when if an up-line leader misses an appointment for a three way call with your top prospect and that prospect decided not to join? Would you react with anger towards your up-line? Would you blame him? Would you get discouraged? If you answered yes to any of those questions, you are being REACTIVE.
If your response was to say to yourself, I am going to improve my skills; I will educate myself more; I will be better prepared or I am going to double my efforts, then you would be exhibiting a proactive behavior. You are DESTINED TO SUCCEED!
Being proactive can be learned. Most of us were raised around reactive people and not guided properly to take responsibility for our own lives. If you are a reactive person, have heart because you can change. You can be proactive.
It is your free will to decide to make that change in your life.

Personal Development
This is so true, I have been working on being more proactive myself and helping others to take more responsibility for their behaviours and control over what they do for some time now. It starts with becoming aware of yourself, how you respond to and react to situations and people around you, acknowledging your responsibility and deciding on making positive changes. In essence three steps.
One of the ways of achieving this is by setting goals which are
Then writing down each step in order which will lead you to achieving your goal.
Next schedule each step into your diary and put a smiley face next to it at the end of the day after completing the task. Reschedule the task if necessary.
Followed by rewards directly related to the goals which are acknowledged at the success of each small step achieved in attaining your goal.
Well though out plan Lynne!
You are correct. It does start with becoming aware of yourself. Thanks for the reply. Your action plan for improving peoples lives is very well thought out.
Your goal setting strategy is right on. When I was a serious competitor in amateur athletics that is how I set my goals, just as you posted.
I see you're new to BN. Welcome. I look forward to seeing you around the blog. Post a picture soon.
Thanks

Wise words
I agree completely having been in the 'reactive' camp once-upon-a-time and now I believe, firmly in the 'proactive' camp! So yes, anyone can make the move from being the 'victim' of circumstances to the 'captain of their own ship'.
The saying..."Change the way you look at things, and the things you look at change" says it nicely. No matter how negative or challenging a circumstance may initially appear, we have the power to look for the lesson or the opportunities within, to grow or to make progress in ways we might not otherwise have considered. If we only take the time to look for the good in something, we will always find it! And as you say, this is crucial to success in all areas of our lives!
Anyway, looking forward to sharing and learning from you all!
Janey
I too have found that when
I too have found that when we are going through a circumstance or a difficult situation, it seems that the going through is what really makes up who we are..... In fact, looking back it is usually when we are broken that right around the corner is a breakthrough. I try to always look for the Good in All things. Its always there, not always easy to see right away though. It is about a choice, and I choose to be responsible, which is the ability to respond with a proactive approach!
