What Happened to the Business?
No boss, no co-workers, no one to hold me accountable. Wow, I can’t wait to be able to do my own thing instead of making my J.O.B millions I will make my own millions. This is going to be great. I won’t have to worry about the politics of the office anymore. Who cares about the quarterly or yearly promotions…oh yea, those don’t exist, anyway I have my own business, and I can have an unlimited bonus every month now! I can meet my friends for breakfast, lunch or an early dinner and don’t have to worry about the time anymore. I’ll be the number one volunteer at my kid’s school now; my kids will be A students because of it.

Ok, I’m going to this great networking event. I have to make sure I have my business cards and of course a great card holder. Ooh! I love this matching leather attaché case…I’ll get that too. Maybe I need to spruce up my outfit so let me buy a new suit...and blouse. Ok. I look very professional now, success is written all over me. Look at all these people. Do they all work from home? This is fabulous; I collected like 30 business cards! That’s 30 prospects. That’s 30 warm leads! That’s 30 new customers! I’ll call them tomorrow. Tomorrow comes. I’ll call them tomorrow. Tomorrow comes. I’ll call them tomorrow. Tomorrow comes. Aww it’s the weekend, I’ll call them Monday. Monday comes. I waited too late to call, they probably won’t remember me.
What happened to the business?
My check just came and it is not enough to cover anything. I’m almost too embarrassed to deposit it. The bank teller knows that I am in business for myself now; she’s going to think I’m a joke when she sees this check. I’ll just go to another branch where I’m unknown. Ok. I really need to get on the ball and do this! Wow, I can’t believe people in this company made that much this month! It must be where they live because the people here just aren’t interested. Maybe I should move, or maybe I should buy leads in their area since it seems like the people there are more receptive to our products. Yea, so what the leads cost way more than what I made in the past two months, it will be worth it because when I buy these 100 leads I know at least 20 of them will enroll. I buy the leads but never call them.
What happened to the business?
There’s a conference call tonight. I love our conference calls. I can’t wait to hear some great nuggets that I can implement into my business. Let me call my one recruit and make sure they are on the call. I wonder why they aren’t enrolling yet....Wow that call was awesome! I am going to be on it! I’m telling you this industry is not ready for me. I’m going to make six figures a month by next month. I’m going to read my notes again tomorrow. I can’t believe it is that easy.
What happened to the business?
I’ve been at this for four months now and I haven’t even made my initial profit back yet. This isn’t for me. I’m not organized enough, no one wants to enroll, and the economy is too bad. I think there’s a J.O.B fair coming up, I’m going to update my resume and go back to corporate. I hate corporate but I am so good at it. What I’m going to do is get a J.O.B, meet more people who have a J.O.B who can buy my product and then when I build up my customer base I will leave and do my own thing. I’ll just get a J.O.B for the next six months and then I’m out of there!
What happened to the business? Does the above scenerios sound familiar?Nothing happened to the business. It’s always been there with no one to work it. It’s like moving to California during the gold rush looking for gold. You build a big beautiful house to live in comfort and you go out each day searching for the gold. You come home each night defeated and tired and all along the gold is buried under your house. That is what your own business is…a gold mine. You dig where you are and the rush will come in. The same discipline it takes to be effective in corporate America is the same discipline it takes to run your own business. You have to calendar your day, create daily and weekly action lists. Develop your contact list through your networking efforts. Follow-up immediately. Stand out and become a business magnet. Give value to those you come in contact with. Spend your money wisely be creative and build your library.
