What makes a good book?

I have been working with a friend and business associate on a team project this week.  It has been a lot of fun.  Her name is Juli Schamel and she is a phenomenal person and a strong leader.  So, when she and I were talking, she hit on something that had been floating through my brain, but I never said aloud.  She said you should be writing this stuff down.  We were talking about life challenges and how we each have personally handled them and so on. 

I decided then to write a book.  Now, my question is this, what makes a good book?  I don't know.  I am not a writer, so if anyone out there is good with writing and can forward some resources to me, I'd greatly appreciate them.   I just want to share my life story with others to hopefully touch, inspire and guide them through a tough time, or maybe help them see they aren't alone in this crazy world.
