What Will You Do With Your Super Powers? The Power of Thought - Ch 1 Think and Grow Rich

Napoleon Hill himself struggled against a myriad of obstacles in his own life, some of which were brought on by his own choices.  (You mean he was human?) Both his personal life and his financial life were spotted.  He wasn’t born successful, rather created his own success, after wading through all of his own personal challenges.

He waded through all of these challenges with incredible resilience and persistence against sometimes massive odds.

I paraphrase the author of the foreward as I consider my own feeling towards the man, “Think and Grow Rich isn’t just about making money.  It’s about a better way to live a rich life. For that I am grateful that Napoleon gave so much of himself in order that he might leave us with this incredible work.”

As I read through those words, my heart felt every bit of that gratitude.  What a service he has done for humanity, but more personally, what a service he has done for me.

Let me ask you a question…

What if you had the power to think about something and it would magically appear?  Wouldn’t that be a cool gift to have?  Well guess what.  Every single one of us was born with that gift!  Now how awesome is that? 

Oh, thank goodness the power does not act instantaneously.  It would be a dreadful world if what we thought of instantly appeared right before us.  You couldn’t pick up a National Geographic without fear of being attacked by some wild beast or finding yourself in the middle of some foreign place with sudden immigration problems lurking on your doorstep.

Our thoughts can flit back and forth so quickly that the world would be chaos.

However, what we think about consistently can be manifested into reality.  What a gift it is to have that knowledge.

Hill begins his classic work espousing the power of thought in our lives.  Hill reminds us that, “Thoughts are things, and powerful things at that, when mixed with definiteness of purpose, persistence, and a burning desire for their translation into riches, or other material objects.”

Barnes knew it, the “junk” man knew it, Darby learned it, even the little colored girl in his uncle’s old mill knew  it.

With dogged determination and undeviating purpose, that which you continue to focus your mind upon manifests into your reality, just as surely as if you found a magic lamp with endless wishes.

Thought is a vital living force, the most vital, subtle and irresistible force that exists in the universe.  The world of thought is  relatively more real than the physical universe.  Thoughts are living things and every thought is accompanied by energy to manifest the same into physical reality.

Thought is a dynamic, creative force.  Every moment the mind is constantly creating hundreds of thought forms and dispersing them again.

“As a man thinketh, so is he.”  This is not just a quaint saying.  The statement is a literal truth! 

If you think you are strong, then you are strong.  If you think you are courageous, then you are courageous.  If you think you are noble, or even godlike, then you will gradually manifest noble and godlike qualities into the reality of who you are.

The thread of thought is woven into mental and moral qualities and in their totality form our character.  You can build your character, your health, and all manifestations of abundance through thought, just as surely as the mason builds a wall brick upon brick.

The first step towards a deliberate creation of character lies in the deliberate choosing of what we will think and then thinking persistently on that quality or object chosen.  Soon there will be a tendency to evoke that quality or attract the object of focus; a little longer and the exercise becomes habit and the habit of thought manifests our physical reality, and spins the thread of our thoughts into our destiny.

As thoughts attract physical manifestations, so too do thoughts attract into our lives people of similar thoughts.  It is the law of “like attracts like” and is ever operating.  Perhaps when Christ said the Father and I are one, was reference to the reality that they were of one mind, of like thought, spirit and action, indeed of like energy, because even in the realm of God, like attracts like and they too are bound by universal law.  So too is the law always active in our own life.

“There is a law, irrevocably decreed in heaven before the foundations of this world, upon which all blessings are predicated--And when we obtain any blessing from God, it is by obedience to that law upon which it is predicated.”

We are all in Mentoring For Free, we are all in the Mental Cleanse, or  whatever  social network, and we all associate with one another because we were drawn to each other because of this very law that like attracts like, and it was our thoughts manifested into physical form that created that attraction.  Our thoughts creating the spoken or written words that drew me and James, me and Juanita, me and Logan or Lynn, or Micheal, or Louis, or whoever  …together.  And that same law that drew all of us together also works to attract other manifestations of that which we think about into our reality.

 Have you ever heard, “Birds of a feather flock together”, or “A man is known by his company”, or perhaps even “misery loves company”?  For good or bad the law is always in effect whether we are conscious of it or not.  We live in a vast ocean of thought and the very atmosphere around us is filled with thought forces that are continually being broadcast and received as thought waves.

We are all affected more or less by these thought waves consciously or unconsciously and if we are positively focused, attract the positive thoughts, like minded people, and events that shape our reality.  On the other hand, if we are negatively focused, like attracts like and the negative thought waves will manifest that reality for us.  Negative thoughts, like minded people, and negative events; for all thought is at our command and must act upon the law in one direction or the other.

Carry any thought with you which you please, and so long as you retain it, no matter what land or circumstance of life you may be in right now, you will unceasingly attract to yourself, knowingly or inadvertently, exactly and only that which corresponds to your own dominant quality of thought.

Thoughts are your own private property and you are at liberty to suit your own tastes.  Please believe this, you really are!  You are free to manifest into your reality whatever you choose to think about by steadily recognizing your ability to do so and then doing it!  You are not merely an accidental creature tossed about to and fro, by some random chaos you imagine the universe might allow.  On the contrary, we live in a universe of order.  You are a literal creator!  This is your destiny   …to realize your power to create and exercise your free choice to either create something good or something evil.

With the knowledge that you create either good or evil dependent upon how you exercise your free agency, you are now responsible, for the results of your life.  Your lack of success is no longer the result of circumstance, bad upbringing, bad luck, misinformation, or any other chaos you might blame for your misfortune.  You can no longer be indifferent to this tremendous power that you possess. 

With great power, comes great responsibility.

If you continue to linger in your misery from this point forward (however you define that), it is because you choose to do so, and you choose to create that evil in your life. 

And here’s the good news…

You also have the free agency to change your mind!
