What's Your Idea Worth??
Stop for a moment.

Now think really hard. In a flash, how many great ideas can you come up with? One? A few? Several dozen?
Now, think about if, and that's a BIG if, any of those brilliant ideas of yours came into fruition, how much major moolah would you make? How easy would life become for you? You can quit your day job and just collect royalties, year after year.
Astounding huh?
I mean, those ideas of yours don't even have to be revolutionary! Think about the patent that merely adds wheels and handlebars to Rubbermaid coolers. What for? Just so guys can lug around that much more beer to their tailgate parties?
Or what about the "electronic toilet brush"? Geeze, what are you doing to your toilet that requires a brush with a motor on it??
And don't even get me started on the pet-rock, the Hawaiian Chair, the Chia-pet... And what about all the rave about bottling up everything in sight?! Bottled water, bottled air, bottled oxygen, the list goes on!
So how many brilliant and amazing ideas HAVE you come up with?
I bet quite a few right? And I'll even wager that many of them are even better than many of the inventions you see today.
So then let me ask you something, pay attention.
"How is it that those folks with those silly ideas (ideas that are certainly not as good, practical, nor desirable as yours) were/are able to make so much money off their one idea, while you are making none with yours?"
What Must Follow an Idea: Execution
Want to know what's the difference between those who actually make money off of their ideas and those who make squat? In one word: execution.
That's right. See, unlike what many of us are led to believe, ideas are NOT worth that much! I mean, sure you have to start with an idea, but that's only a small portion of it. It's what follows that will take you (and your idea) to greatness.
It's the investment of time, effort, and perhaps even money... It's the "get off of your a** and do something" factor that takes your idea from just "an idea" and transforms it into reality.
"I Have an Idea." (Yeahhh? So What?)
It's funny, I hear great ideas all the time. I hear them from friends and family; I hear them from associates. And they all tell me the same things to go along with their ideas:
- "Don't tell anybody else about this" (as if no one else has thought of it)
- "I wish I had the money/time/energy to make it happen" (uh huh...)
And that's about when I nod my head and smile, knowing that another idea in the sea of ideas generated daily by the 6.7 billion people that inhabit this planet, has just gone from "what could be" to "never will be".
I've been there.
I remember when I thought it wise to hoard all my ideas for myself - thinking that there's no way anyone else has thought of it or is thinking of it. I thought that what I hold onto in my head are worth millions.
Your Ideas are Worthless
Guess what? They are not worth jack.
Those ideas of yours? They are worthless!
It's only when you go about implementing and executing will you even begin to wish for some returns; and even then that's iffy.
It's those who are able to execute with precision, deliberation, and speed who will make it big with the ideas of theirs.
So next time you have an idea, don't hoard it thinking that if it stays in your head and your head only it'll make you money. Instead, share it with your friends and family. Share it with those whom you trust.
That way not only will they be able to help you develop your ideas, they might even be able to help you make them into realities. And of course, by stating your idea to the universe, you are essentially holding yourself accountable - to the best of your ability. Now that you've said it, you gotta do it lest you appear the fool :)
Don't just dream it, be it, and do it.

Tooting Our Horn...
Not that I want to toot our horn or anything... but I will.
An example of Raymond and I using one of the principles of success, "speed of implementation" was the manifestation of SEO Networker. It literally went from idea to reality in less than 30 days - setting up the membership site, recording the video newsletters (twice!), sales letter, video sales letter, 3 wordpress sites (2 private), graphics, setting up JV deals, merchant account, to name a few things.
All done with Raymond's 2 week Australia trip in the middle and me going to Baja Mexico w/ Dillard to watch them race in the Baja 1000.
The key factor in all this was establishing the launch date and telling our JVs when we would launch. So once you've told some important people what you are going to do, you have no choice but to do it!
So Nike is wrong. It's not "Just Do It". It's "Set a Deadline, Tell A Lot of Important People, Then Do It"

Making the Shift
Great read,
I hear what your saying Raymond and man can I relate to it.
Its easier to build barriers than it is to take action.
My greatest stumbling block was deciding to do something.
Once I'd actually decided to do something the rest just flowed.
Procrastination hangs on the wall of self defeat.
What's Your Idea Worth??
Good report, thanks!
If I told you you my great
If I told you you my great idea and plans for implementing it I's have to shorr you sorry. Ok I posted this late on a Saturday to lighten my mood:)
Forward motion
Several months ago, I down loaded a free copy of Joel Comm's Adsense Secrets book. About the only thing my wife and I did on the net was email and shop. Before we finished the book, we each created 3 new blogs. We played around with Adsense and made some cool looking ads. Then we found Mike Dillard and really got excited. We converted our free blogs to Wordpress blogs with hosted domains. We signed up for Twiiter and found both Ferny and Raymond. In January, we enrolled in the SEOnetworker's.
When Raymond talks about ideas being worthless, he is so right on. My wife and I had ideas of being writers when we married 10 years ago. That ideas was so stupid and worthless because it was just an idea.
Our idea now is to monetize our interests using all the tools available to us with the web. We are committed to forward motion and learning.

9 Months in Hibernation to 2 Weeks of ACTION
This reminds me of an idea I had last year. I wanted to write a free self-help book and create a website to build my list by giving the ebook away. I had the idea for around 9 months... finally one day I just said to myself, "I'm dropping everything and getting this done NOW..."
Within 2 weeks I had a 30 page ebook done, along w/ a multi-page website (with some damn sexy graphics I might add)... all the while the site is virally growing itself. The first 2 weeks of launch it grew my list by 120, and it's still doing pretty darn good with out me actively marketing it.
I just made a decision and didn't stop til it was DONE.
Creating something out of nothing and keeping the promises we make to ourselves are some of my favorite ways to be excited about living life! :-)

It all begins with ideas. Thanks for being a possibility thinker and reminding the community all things are possible when you take action

It's A Disease!!
I really believe procrastination is a disease that's killing people. I've had it for years. It's odd that when I was a child/teenager, I didn't have this problem. I thought of an idea, made a plan and then I just did it! Even if I wasn't successful, I learned from it and kept doing it until I was. What in the world happened to me as I became an adult?!! I thought it would have become easier as I got older. Not!
But there is hope. I have found the remedy for this disease and the cure was (and is) to get off my behind and make it happen!
Thanks for the great article Raymond!!!
Idea
You are so right that reminds me of the saying a quitter never wins and a winner never quits.
Right on.....
No matter what we think or say ...we must do and take action. Not sit on the couch or talking a party what your about to do. Taking action - "Real" action was the biggest hurdle for me, but man has it paid off. No...I am not rolling in the dough, nor have rolled up on a BMW showroom and plopped down 100K for a new car, BUT...I have taking action, which has lead to consistency. Which is me paying me a nice a residual monthly. Actions works, when you decide to work at action.
Consistency and being persistent to win has kept me in the game. Now, flowers are starting to bloom, because I got out of the way.
Thank for being an honest, straight shooting guy. That is what we all need straighter shooters.
I'm glad to be one!
Also, I am glad to call you a friend.
Sincerely,
Thomas Chandler
