Why is MLM dead?

           
So you hopped on the latest and greatest MLM and you are now marketing a juice, vitamins, or vacations; I wish you well. You have set your sights high and have reason to be proud. Heck, you finally set yourself apart from those corporate stooges that live in the lull of false security and great ‘benefits’.
 
No, you’re going for something more, something better. You want a life of freedom. But unless your goal is to become an end distributor making a few hundred bucks a month the product is not really your business; the marketing system that sells it is your product.
 
First rule of marketing: People are looking for two things and two things only.
 

  1. Products/services that help solve a problem or remove a frustration, or in some way make their lives easier.
  2. Products/services that bring joy and gratification.

 
Back in the old days the MLM’s offered the average Joe a way out of his deadend job; it could help solve the problem of seeking financial freedom.
 
Remember, it comes back down to the two core drivers of human behavior: pain and pleasure. Our decision making ability is constantly choosing our path for us. You must understand that you can learn to control yours and that you will be in an advantageous position over those that don’t (the vast majority of the population).
 
Master this skill and you will know what, how, and when to market to anybody.
 
Many did master this skill and did very well in MLM until the dawn of the information age. The internet has destroyed the age-old system of building relationships and growing stable distributor bases.
 
Both good and bad news now travel at the speed of light, companies and relationships rise and fall overnight as people jump from one opportunity to the next. Everyone wants to “get in on top” when “the next big thing” hits.
 
The age of the prelaunch has made it next to impossible for you to grow that illusive residual income you’ve been working so hard for.
 
Basically, if we go back to the first rule of marketing, the internet has turned a solution into a frustration and that’s why MLM is a hard sell nowadays. Not to mention a costly one too! An estimated 97% of these home based business owners are spending more than they’re making. I should know, I used to be one of them. I blew through about $15.000 in one year trying to build a business around a fancy berry juice.
 
The product was great and I came in with no lack of enthusiasm and determination. I invested great amounts of time and money into coaching and training. But I am embarrassed to admit I never made more than a few hundred bucks. Not a great ROI, wouldn’t you agree?
 
Let’s face it, the honeymoon is over. MLM will not earn you a stable residual income unless you already have a pre-existing network under you today. MLM vets will NEVER admit this and for good reason. If they were to admit that they are succeeding in their latest company thanks to an existing network that followed them the entire opportunity would fizzle and die. The potential new entrants they rely on to fight attrition and maintain commission levels would be too discouraged to even join.
 
But what if you’re not ready to give up on your dreams? What can you do?
 
Fortunately there are non-MLM network marketing opportunities that pay out huge commissions up front that do not rely on a large downline. They simply pay a much larger commission per sale so you don’t need to sell a thousand cases of juice for every $10 in commissions. Often these companies have a 2 or 3 tier compensation plan where it’s just you and your immediate network. This is far superior to a pyramid of strangers upon which you rely for your income and who could disappear overnight.
