Why Most People Will Never Make it in this Business

And...most importantly, how to NOT be part of that group!

Like I said, I get tons of questions from people about why people

do and do not make it in network marketing.  Again...the questions are:

Why do so many people fail in network marketing?  And,

What is the secret to success in this business?

So, here are my answers.  By the way, I didn't just fall out of the

tuna boat yesterday.  I am entering my 18th year of doing network

marketing as a full time profession, so this comes directly from

years and years and years of field experience.

The Reasons Why Most People Don't Make it in Network Marketing:

1. They treat it like a part-time hobby.  Even if you are part time,

treating your business like a hobby is bound to produce little or

no results.  If you want a hobby, take up marble collecting or

something else that is trivial.  Network Marketing is a BUSINESS

and must be treated as such.

2. They don't believe in what they are doing.  Too often people go

into this game "wanting" to create success, yet they don't even

really believe in what they do.  Doubting is guaranteed to be a

recipe for failure.

3. They lie to themselves.  Yes, they do!  People often kid

themselves into believing they are actually conducting REVENUE

PRODUCING ACTIVITIES, yet the reality is that many of them are

simply being BUSY.  If you aren't prospecting and exposing, you

really ARE NOT doing network marketing.

4. They place blame on everyone else but themselves.  People who

don't grow a check are quick to point the finger at their sponsor,

the company, the products, the tools or any other myriad of choices

where their finger can point.  Bottom line:  If people are making

money in your company and you aren't, look in the mirror.  The

cool thing is that in the end, YOU get to BLAME YOU for your

SUCCESS or your failure.  Trust me, it is a lot more fun blaming

yourself for a big check!

5. They hop from program to program.  The grass may SEEM greener on

the other side, but it almost never is.  The solution is not in

another company.  The solution is working on you, your skills,

and your work ethic.

6. They never really get after it.  Quite frankly, I think this

is one of the biggest reasons for failure.  People again say that

they "want" success, that they "want" freedom, but rolling up their

sleeves and getting after is another story.  If getting rich was

easy, you wouldn't see so many Toyota Corolla's driving around our

streets!  By the way, if you drive one of them, don't take offense!

I had one...a beautiful bright red, 1989 Toyota Corolla.

While there are a handful of other reasons why people don't make it,

the aforementioned are the one's that I see as being most commonplace.

So...to the other side of the coin:

What is the Secret to Success in Network Marketing?

1. It isn't a secret.

2. Hard work.

3. Staying consistent.

4. Focusing on your skill development

5. Working on your "head".

6. Putting your head down and staying focused.

7. Sticking with the same company.

8. Working longer and harder than you ever have in the past.

9. Surround yourself with successful people.

10. Reading books and listening to personal development material

rather than watching television.

11. Developing into the consummate promoter.

12. Refining your leadership skills.

13. Be willing to step up and volunteer in your business.

14. Never, ever, ever give up.

Again, there are certainly some more details related to guaranteeing

your success in business.  But that's how I see it.

But, then again, what would I know?  I've only been doing this day

in and day out, every day for 18 years?  : )

Rockin' and Rollin',

Great

Great article Todd - I come across so many people convinced it doesn't work - but ask them about their experiences, and they either have none, or joined a program and didn't try very hard or very long.

Unfortunately, a lot of Internet Marketing focuses on how easy it is to make millions without doing any work, so within the Industry I believe there's a problem with unrealistic expectations among new entrants to any program if they've 'believed the hype'. The reality is that Success takes work - over a prolonged and continuous period.

Always Love Your Articles

Thanks Todd. Great advice and brutally honest.

You really don't get anything for nothing, especially in NM and IM.

BTW, I really liked your article about "purpose" as I too try to do everything from the foundation of my spiritual beliefs.

Telling it Like it Is

Great advice Todd. And if only people would realise the work involved and get on with it instead of looking for the 'secret'. Put as much effort into your business as you put into searching for the 'easy road' and success is there.

The TRUTH

Thank you for this article Todd. It speaks the truth even though many might not like to hear it. Hard work and persistence are required in this industry and I'm happy to hear leaders like yourself promoting this. Easy riches don't exist but we all know this industry provides the best and most efficient vehicle to get us all where we want to be. Thanks again Todd.
