Why you should be using Facebook as an integral part of your MLM marketing strategy.

Read More: Marketing  |  Social Networking

Facebook used to be thought of as purely a place for social networking in the sense of friends meeting up or people with a common interest. However it has grown beyond that now and is the 2nd biggest social networking site in the world. If that isn’t a reason to consider Facebook then I don’t know what is?

Moving on from the sheer size and number of people on Facebook the interface is extremely easy to use as is the process of inviting ‘friends’. Friends for these purposes need to be thought of as prospects. Using Facebook it is perfectly possible to recruit 50 prospects in 20 minutes. So in a six day week that’s a potential of 300 prospects a week. The trick is to recruit friends from Facebook who are interested in MLM marketing.

Fortunately Facebook makes this easy because it allows like-minded people to form groups and a lot of industry leaders have fan pages.
Facebook has a limit of 5,000 friends, groups and Fan Pages are a way round this limit.

Essentially your strategy should consist of firstly creating a full and professional profile, preferably one you use for you MLM business only. That way you know all your friends are related to your business opportunity and not the one you may have for friends and relatives.

There are some cardinal sins you should not commit on the profile the main one being to do with your photograph. You DO NOT want a goofy, or scantily clad photo or one at an angle. You should be professionally attired and have a pleasant smile. Any logo should be relevant and again professional in appearance.

After creating your profile you then need to join up to say 10 MLM groups to start with. When looking at the groups go for groups with over 500 members. This is where you will recruit your friends from.

When inviting your friends remember to include their name in the invite.
That covers the first part of this series, I am grateful to the work of Mellissa Swanson and Gregg Davidson which has contributed to this post being written.

Facebook or bust

Andrew,

I think facebook is the most impressive piece of technology that I have used. I'm blown away buy what it can do.....

My question is, how do I use facebook with out being the pestering guy bothering everyone I know about my MLM company.. There are people who I think will like it, and those who will be turned off.

There is a fine line between business and friendship.

Any comments?

Mike

OK first be clear your

OK first be clear your professional Facebook page is NOT about friendship. It's a way of showcasing what you do and offering products or services people can choose to buy into or not. So no hard sell to anyone is a golden rule.

Second the key is to recruit only from the MLM groups you have joined otherwise it won't work. Some will accept some won't but you are in a warm market and the same group so why wouldn't they accept? Be positive:)

When anyone accepts your friendship request make sure - and this is very important - to post on their wall thanks for connecting and a very low key message about who you are and what you do include a link to your site. This is not pushy and simply leaves it up to them to click or not.

It won't take long until you have enough friends for your own group. I am going to cover that in another article.

Thanks!

This is a great article!  I've had a Facebook for some time now with friends, family and some local networking acquaintances as well, but never thought to really join large MLM groups.  I'll have to see about getting a separate profile for MLM networking.

Thanks again!

2 Facebook profiles?

My Facebook has always been MY facebook, and I guess it makes sense to have a private one, and a personal one. Having 2 facebook profiles? is that a good way to go? I don't know ... but I'm going to go try ...

Facebook for business

Hi Andrew, thanks so much for simple, easy to understand tips about using facebook for business.  I joined a while ago and have been connecting with friends however, was at a loss how to promote it for business and did not want to have all the personal comments showing to business prospects.  How simple, do a separate professional page (what is it they say, even the simplest things can elude you sometimes).  Great work and thanks for the tips on MLM groups.  I had not fully investigated Facebook so hadn't noticed the groups section.  Thanks again for a great article!  I gave it the thumbs up!

Separate personal and business

I agree, Andrew.

Keeping your "personal" life separate from your "business" life is going to make things better in both realms.  I only have a personal facebook page up now.   But, after reading your throughts, I will put up the professional facebook page today.

Thanks for the tips.

Oil and water do not mix

Ones personal life and business life should be seperated. If not you will loose objectivity.

Facebook Marketing Stratergies

Okay so perhaps I missing something here and perhaps it's because I not in the MLM sector.

You say that when using Facebook you should focus on people who are also in the MLM sector?

Are you looking to offer better, similar or different methods, or is it more about adding additoning products to your downlines?

Sorry if I seem a little vague here,.

I havn't yet begun to create a Facebook profile soley for business, but when I do my aim is to target people associated but not in direct competition with me, this way I can compliment, add value and at the same time learn.

If I were selling kindergarten play equipment I would be targeting child minding associations, or pre-school, earlylearning centres, that sought of thing.

They are associated but no competiton for me.

Not that I'm in that field, but I'm sure you get the drift.

As I say perhaps it's beacuse my primary focus is not MLM.

Anyway, I realy enjoyed the article, it was most enlightening.

Cheers

Best advice I can give is

Best advice I can give is google The Shoestring Marketer who is Jessica Swanson on this forum. Visit her blog and sign up for the free ezine. If you RSS subscribe to her Blog and make Google the reader (assuming you have a google account) the posts will appear in the relevant part of Google. Look for the one where she explains how to set up Facebook. And no the advice I gave applies to any business using social media marketing. Once you get your head round the fact these are not friends but business prospects that makes it easier. This is your 'fishing pool' part of your social media strategy.

Much Appreciated

Thanks for that,

I'll check it out.

Any advice about setting up facebook correctly is most welcomed.

I'm looking forward to a spot of fishing...

cheers
