Wisdom From A Street Hooker?
Great article from my fellow Glimpse Mastermind Diane Zidek. I couldn't have said it any better, so without any changes, here it is.
I am sure I am not alone when I confess that I am a sucker for watching some of my favorite movies over and over (and over) again. For me, where I am mentally or spiritually often affects what I get from a particular film. A reference or metaphor that I had zero awareness for suddenly pops right out from the screen. This is a big reason for my love of cinema.
It happened again on a recent Sunday night when I began watching “Pretty Woman” for the 78th time. I know, sick right? Humor me here, it’s just an estimate. Not sure how I previously missed this street-wise golden nugget from Julia Robert’s character “Vivian”, but I am sure glad I got it now. Wisdom from a street hooker? Yes. Sometimes major clues from the most unusual places.
So, picture the scene. As a completely lost Richard Gere pulls up in his partner’s Lotus on Hollywood Boulevard, he sees Vivian, a prostitute, stops the car and starts the conversation. “Can you tell me how to get to Beverly Hills?” he asks, expecting a straight-up answer. Vivian says “Yes, for $5.” Upon immediate complaint from Gere, Vivian shouts “the price just went up to 10.” Gere retorts, “You can’t charge for directions!” And then, the street wisdom that I missed in all the other 77 viewings comes from Vivian…“I can charge anything I want honey, I ain’t lost.”
After that really sank in, I thought, this is exactly the position to be in in your online or network marketing business. And this IS exactly what the “ain’t lost” crowd does – because there is a hungry, if not starving mass of people who are lost and need directions. Now I’m not suggesting extortion here, don’t get me wrong. But being in a position where you understand and can execute online business strategies and tactics that others just don’t have a clue about (having “directions”) – this puts you in a very powerful position.
The name of the game is to get yourself educated as fast as you can so you will be in a position to provide directions to the “lost”. With so many jumping into online and networking business, this crowd is growing daily. Study from those already ahead on the path and start executing so you can lead. If you don’t make this a priority in your business, the price will most certainly have “just gone up to 10” (with a few zeros tacked on).

Excellent Point
Carrie,
Thanks for posting Diane's article. I love that movie, although have not watched it that many times. Great point about learning everything and becoming good at what you know... enough to be marketable. As a doctor I am always learning and with each new skill I can increase my prices, although I haven't yet and should have by now. Thanks for the boot in the but. My fees go up tomorrow!

Awww, now see what you've started!
Just kidding, great article and wisdom here. Street smarts are always in demand, like working in the trenches for 16 years! You gotta get something good out of it, the experience is worth millions!
