Working With Your Upline - The First Three-Way Call After You Have a New Sign-Up

You’ve sponsored someone who has come through your marketing system without talking to them.

Congrats! They found your “internet bait” somewhere, deemed it valuable and worthy. So much so, they followed the necessary path and steps you provided, and joined your network marketing opportunity.

Your marketing system has just proven to work.

But now what?

If you're somewhat new, I suggest setting up a three-way phone consultation with your upline and the new person who has just joined your network marketing opportunity. This article will be about the first three-way call you make after you have a new sign-up.

Here is a general "formula" I have found effective.

  • You, the sponsor, introduces, builds up, establishes, and strengthens your upline’s credibility. This is meant to open the mind of your new member, and really have them listening. I call this the process of edification.

If you don’t have an upline who is willing to do this for you, you may have not made the best choice for an upline. Again this depends on your needs. Here is a hyper link for more information about how I used Black Belt Recruiting to assist your choice of an upline.

  • You, the sponsor, should basically be able to put the phone on mute unless your upline asks you to join in the conversation in some way or another. (Perhaps it’s an overstatement to literally put your phone on mute, but the message is this – You shouldn’t be the one doing the majority of the talking).

  • This process of edification occurs at the beginning and end of the conversation, but at the end, it’s the upline who edifies You, the sponsor.

  • The upline “FORMs” the prospect. FORM is an acronym:

Family.
Occupation.
Recreation.
Message.

The purpose behind FORM is to build belief, not only in You and your upline’s ability to lead, but also in your new business partner. You want to make sure their goals are realistic, and that they understand work is involved.

It’s important to get a feel for their goals, experience, and overall life situation. This helps with accountability. Always take notes and demonstrate that you listen.

Ideally, the new member should be speaking a little more than 50% of the time.

The “Message” portion of FORM is specific to the opportunity; specific to the individual; specific to the marketing system, etc.

For example, it could be upgrading to premium membership or purchasing Magnetic Sponsoring and Black Belt Recruiting (these two products go nicely together as a set) building belief, making sure goals are realistic, etc.  One thing I try to do is to get a feel for their goals, experience, etc.

  • Your upline wraps it up by asking if the new member has any questions while they're on the line.

  • Your upline edifies You, the sponsor, and hands the call back to you to close out. At this time, be sure to provide next steps and/or weekly training schedule.

Action ALWAYS works!

Build belief in network marketing for yourself first. Do this long before you try to build it in the prospects you recruit. This is what I enjoy doing - helping others set up their marketing on the internet.

Get step by step internet network marketing training so you can grow your business, grow your skills and have the proper belief in yourself, and your income will catch up.

Edification

This is excellent information Eric! We may have a tendency to throw the baby out with the bath water when we distance ourselves from old school methods. Although I now cringe at the thought of making a list my upline did provide good teaching on a variety of topics. Edification was high on the list of skills to master. FORM is a great acronym to use as well. Thank you for the lesson on 3-way calling. This has never been an option for me as the new member but definitely a required skill now as the upline. Thanks Eric!
