You Don't Have A Business, If You Don't Control Your Own Leads

If You Don't Control Your Leads, You Don't Have A Business.

This is a lesson I had to learn the hard way.

When I got started in the network marketing industry, I got plugged into the marketing system I was using that revolved around purchasing recruiting leads.

Although I was able to build a business rather fast, I built a 1/2 a million dollar a year business in 6 months thru using this system, something just didn't sit quite right as I was spending more each month that I was earning.

After 2 years, I had to take a step back and evaluate what I was doing, and that's when I determined that this was no way to build a business long term.

And when I left that marketing system, guess what happened to the $20,000 worth of leads I had bought- I lost them because they were being controlled by the system, not me.

And all that money, all that time and energy spent and I was left to start from scratch. So one of my top lessons I learned, was you don't really have a business if you aren't in control of your own leads.

It's all about recognizing that Network Marketing is simply a business, and therefore, we must think like real business people.

To control your own leads, you just need

1. An Autoresponder

2. A splash page or blog with an optin field.

This way if your system collapses, or you leave a business, you will be able to be in control of all the leads you have created and not fall victim to what I did and loose them all :)

Take Control

Hi Kristen

I couln't agree with you more. Network Marketing is evolving rapidly and more and more people are thinking along these lines now.

Just like any business, we need to have cash flow to cover business costs (and we need to tell our new people that they need to budget for marketing costs!), we need to control our own assets (the list is our asset) and skills to lead and train our organisation.

Thanks for your story.

No Business at all...

Hey Kristen -

You are so right. Just think if Wal-Mart used a 3rd party source they had to pay each month to get candidates, customers, etc. Then if they didn't pay, that 3rd party source could turn right around and sell those names and numbers to K-Mart.

Of course I am so glad it doesn't work that way with them but that's what happens in the Network Marketing industry. And the funny thing is it's sounds like a valid way to start off your business until you are enlightened as to the behind the scenes crud that goes on with those types of methods.

Right on!
