Everything Has Changed--So Get With The Program

You will need to embrace an entirely new way of living. You no longer will depend on the things you once had.

  • The security of a paycheck each week is a thing of the past.
  • The surety of a paid vacation is no longer present.
  • The need to find food and drink (from the analogy) is now a very present daily reality.
  • Sales do not come in from the Sales Department because there isn’t one.
  • The need to deliver something may elicit the response from the past to call the shipping department but you don’t have one.

You may well understand these matters when planning to start an online business. However, once you are actually involved and find yourself doing the daily tasks, you can easily lose sight of what you understand. Then when you experience frustration because you need a tool or resource, reality will set in and it is easy to become discouraged. You may be looking back to the lure of the old way much sooner than you think. When your life savings are dwindling and your back is against the wall you must be fortified with a commitment that is unwavering. Knowing that things are going to be different, and expecting that difficulties may come is the necessary foundational understanding you will need to start an online business.

You've started an online business and there is no mountain that cannot be climbed. There is no hurdle over which you can not jump. A dead end is only the opportunity to find a new road. The day may bring great difficulty and many challenges but you know there is nothing you can lean on except yourself. There is no place to turn for the resources. You can not turn back because you have made a determined decision that you don’t want to live in the corporate world anymore. You have recognized the importance and significance of approaching every new day from a new perspective.

The playing field is different; the players on the field are different; the rules are all new; even the goals are no longer the same. You, though, have chosen the path to freedom and you will make it no matter what comes. You know challenges will be coming your way, and you realize you will need to handle each of these yourself. You'll have no authority to advise you and no one who will shoulder the responsibility with you.

This is the mindset of one who has reckoned with the challenge that is set before her. Everything has changed. Your responses to the upcoming challenges will not be cushioned by anyone else. The natural tendency you may have when faced with a difficult situation or a new challenge or another risk that must be taken is to take the course of least resistance. This course does not exist for the man or woman who is going to succeed in a new business especially with all there is to learn when you start an online business. The “least resistance” is phraseology from the past, another life, the old world. Your commitment to this new perspective expects a challenge and does not look for the easy way out. The expeditious way may bring immediate satisfaction for the present but that was the way you formerly thought. This, however, is no longer in your new vocabulary. You may have been willing to let the chips fall as they may upon someone else because of a decision you made in the past. Now, though, you will likely be the one who feels the effects of an easy way out. A decision you make now to stand behind something means that your own name is attached to it.
