Your Own Ebook? Brand Yourself and Keep The Profits!!
Ok, I've got a bunch of info and I don't want to write an encyclopedia volume as an article, so let me run through this for you as QUICKLY as possible...
If you want to BRAND YOURSELF using your own ebook, allow others to pay you for it, and have your customers be able to IMMEDIATELY download it... than read every last word of this post...
One thing you'll hear about is selling an info product... why?
- It's almost 100% profit
- You can brand yourself and position yourself as a leader
- ANYONE can create an ebook
So what I'm going to do is walk you through how to sell an ebook on your own site... In fact, you could use this same strategy to sell ANY kind of downloadable material. An mp3 or podcast, an ebook, or whatever.
Here's how to do it:
1.) Get a copy of Open Office... think "Microsoft Office" but FREE...
(quick side note... want to hear an oxymoron? you know like "jumbo shrimp" or "icy hot"? here's another one for you: Microsoft Works... okay, that's enough of the nerd-humor... [i can just see ray and ferny laughing at this right now
])
The reason I'm telling you to use Open Office Writer is because it's got a built-in pdf maker... Yeah, pretty sweet, huh?
2.) Start creating your own ebook.
I suggest leading people through your own story...
chapter 1 - what i'm about and why i want to help YOU
chapter 2 - what is residual income or how to make money efficiently.. (you get the point)
chapter 3 - why network marketing? (don't forget to include affiliate links!)
chapter 4 - how to automate your business (capture pages, autoresponder, etc...)
chapter 5 - team benefits (why they should join YOU)
chapter 6 - how they can get started...
sure, "pre-sell" them on your business... but give them GOOD VALUE. help them learn something new... whether it's marketing, or why it's good to own a business..
3.) after you're all done with it (the book can be 15 pages, or 115 pages... it doesn't matter... just price it correctly!)... now you can make it a pdf...
In Open Office Writer, click "file" and then "export as pdf"...
Now you've got the file you want to sell them!
4.) create a sales page and a download page...
Create a page w/ a WYSIWYG editor... I personally use
...
On the sales page, it's preferable to have a picture of the ebook (if you don't know how to do this than don't worry about it for now...).
You'll also need a button for the prospect to click on to buy it, but don't worry about this... One of the next resources I'm going to give you takes care of that...
5.) Now you need a way to accept payment. This is called a "merchant account". This USED TO BE a total pain in the ass. You'd need to apply, get approved, and then pay a setup fee, and then some companies would charge you a monthly minimum...
I'll just cut to the chase and give you my preferred and FREE merchant account service..
Yep, good ol' Google.. NO setup fee. NO minimum monthly fees. You only pay per transaction (which you'll get w/ ANY service anyway...) It's only 20 cents plus 2% of the total for each transaction - which is damn good if you know anything about merchant accounts...
(And just so you know, for every $10 processed through Google Checkout, you get $1 of Adwords ads for FREE!!!)
So go to google checkout, and underneath the right signup box, click "information for sellers"... read through for more info and then signup for a FREE account.
NOTE: The ONLY disadvantage I've found w/ google checkout is they do not currently support recurring billing. This would be helpful if you were charging people for a membership site... You can still use the below shopping cart program, but you'd want to use Paypal to process your recurring billing. For our purposes of an ebook, Google checkout is perfect..
6.) Next, the ONLY other service you'll need besides your website and google checkout is a SHOPPING CART program. Now don't worry, it's easier than you think.
You see, Google will be happy to take your customer's payment and give you your cut... But how the heck will the customer get to the download page?
This is where e-junkie comes in. This is the shopping cart program I use for 3 reasons:
1.) It's only $5 per month.
2.) You're not limited to the number of downloads your customers do!
3.) It integrates with Google Checkout like peanut butter and jelly..(and it does work with paypal if you'd rather go that route).
Sign up for an account, and type in the required info. You'll have to put in the URL of the download page, tell ejunkie how much you're charging for it, and some other info.
And e-junkie will even give you the "buy now" button to put on your sales page...
I'm currently selling several products like this...
- a $7 audio download w/ bonus ebook
- $247 online network marketing course (150+ page ebook, 39+ videos, and a bunch of bonuses)
- 'do i have what it takes to start a home based business' ebook
- another ebook i'll be launching at the start of the summer that i'm currently working on. it'll retail for either $47 or $77... haven't decided yet - besides, I'm still writing it.. haha
Now, does this take time? YES! Will you maybe have to learn a few lines of html code? Maybe (it should be just cut and paste).. But this is one MAJOR way to set yourself apart in your marketplace...
Now, if you don't have this kind of time... what do you do? Either make a shorter ebook (you can write a 20 page ebook in a week EASY) or just market affiliate products!
When marketing affiliate products, you don't have to write anything - no ebook, no sales letter.. And you won't have to 'test and tweak' your sales copy. And marketing stuff like Magnetic Sponsoring and such - you already know those products convert!
If you want the 'edge' by branding YOU, Inc. you're going to have to do some extra work - period.
Hope that gives my Better Networker Masterminds something to chew on for the next few days... ![]()
