Thanks for stopping by. My name is Joyce Penner, Entrepreneur and Mom. I am a business owner associated with Life Force International and Team Inc Pro and loving the freedom of working from home ! My passion is to help those who struggle in network marketing to focus, to differentiate between marketing and sales and to work shoulder to shoulder with those who truly desire success.
Learning new marketing techniques is not the same as making sales
He was a crotchety old man and I was relatively new on the job. The week before I had designed and placed an ad in the local newspaper for him. This was a follow up call with the intent (on my part) that he would place a subsequent ad.
I was met with "You didn't sell a d**m thing with that ad !" I don't know where it came from, I guess even back then I knew the difference between marketing and sales, but my immediate gut response to him was "It's not my job to sell anything, that's your job."
Distinct difference: Marketing and Sales
Have you noticed or are you caught up in the marketing aspect of growing your network marketing business? Are you blogging, doing video marketing, making friends on social networking sites, writing articles, involved in forums? Great job of marketing !
But what are you marketing? You? Are you branding "YOU"? To what end? So you can work really hard for a very long time to become an expert? Of what? Where do the sales come in? Marketing "you" is cool if you can make money at it, if you can sell you, your expertise and knowledge. But until you get to the level of expertise of creating your own products: ask yourself if you are a product that people would pay for?
DOES YOUR MARKETING PLAN SELL SOMETHING?
Don't get me wrong, you should brand you but let me suggest something to you that very few people are actually doing.
BRAND YOURSELF AS A BUSINESS OWNER
Another customer, another day, I was talking to a very savvy, sharp business owner who had just taken over an existing business. There was a bit of animosity within the community as the perception circling around town was the previous owner had been badly done by. As we brainstormed about his marketing strategy for the next year, the idea of putting a friendly and knowledgeable face to his campaign was born. He would write the copy sharing his knowledge of the industry, alternating with the products and news about the company and I would take the appropriate pictures, put the ad together including his photo, a bio, logo, location etc. and we would publish an ad every week for a year.
The format stayed the same, the copy, pics and call to action changed each week.
It worked. He became one of the most successful business owners in town. Within 3 months his first quarter sales exceeded the previous year's total sales volume.
He knew what he was marketing. Similar to what we, as network marketers, refer to as Attraction Marketing but with a vast difference to the online norm of never mentioning your company: his company/products were always front line. Providing value without losing focus of increasing sales.
Professional, friendly, smiling head shot drew people to him like a magnet. They knew what he sold, where he was, how to reach him and he became the "go to guy" as strangers and locals alike, knew he was in the business of selling.
He never lost sight of the fact he was in business and to stay in business, money had to change hands.
Never once did he write copy and tell me to keep people guessing about what he did, where he was and what company/product he represented as we've been taught to do online.
His marketing was laser targeted to achieve one goal and one goal only: telling people how his company and/or products could help them so he could sell more! Whether he used attraction marketing or hard core sales ads or sponsoring the local hockey team, his presence in our community was as a business owner. A professional.
YOUR MARKETING MUST LEAD TO A SALE
Whatever you have chosen to market, it must be something that people will pay you to get for themselves. Multi-level marketing companies have taken the headache out of owning your own business and therefore it makes strategic sense to focus on building a business within the MLM framework.
However, if you've chosen to market "you" then have you figured out what your price tag is? Are you applying the dollar value to what you're worth? Are people willing to pay you for what you are marketing?
MARKETING "YOU" MUST PAY "YOU"
That is, after-all, what business owners do. "You give me money, I'll give you this". We expect it. It's the way the world turns and if we, as network marketers, provide extraordinary value with coaching, training, and/or support after they've made their purchase, we'll be surrounded by satisfied, happy, successful customers and business partners.
Remember: Marketing is NOT sales and without sales there is NO profit, NO fulfilled dreams, and NO success stories.
Stay laser focused and make your marketing do what it is supposed to do - make sales !
