Is the Network Marketing Industry Turning Around? A story of Failure and Frustration, Hope and Happiness!

It was a long time ago, around 30 years ago when I first took a look at Network Marketing. I remember being given a presentation by an A.L. Williams affiliate in a motel restaurant. The hype was there but I didn't buy into it, probably because the speaker had an uncontrollable twitch in his right eye that just wouldn't let me trust him enough.

Seemed all too slick for me, and I passed. The industry was an infant then, trying to take a few steps and stay on its feet. I'd never heard of anyone who actually made any money at MLM back in the day

The next opportunity crossed my path in the form of a handful of cassette tapes, all promoting the Amway Corporation. I listened to the rhetoric and couldn't bring myself to jump on board, even though there were a few bullet lines and interesting examples. They even had actor Loren Green pitching Amway on video! Still, no cigar.

I let it go until the late 80's, when visiting my accountant friend, she handed me a few capsules of blue green algae, and some algae drops put under my tongue. Algae? Isn't that pond scum? Anyway I tried it, and had this incredible sense of well being and energy flood over me! I felt so good, I eagerly took all the materials home with me, and devoured them too, actually felt so great I signed up on the spot! I was so enthused about this magic pond scum, that I had no trouble getting my friends to try it.

Some got immediate results like I did, some had no immediate results, and quit taking it, and some had bad results, good and bad, because their body was detoxifying, but the couldn't take the side affects. I actually became a "Health and Nutrition Expert" and learned all about Homeopathy, detoxification, regeneration, antioxidants, enzymes, probiotics, and all the rest. I spent hours on the phone teaching my knowledge to people who really didn't care about all that. They were more interested in Friday and the weekend, Pizza night, and whose going to buy the beer this time for the game!

I stuck with it for 10 long years, and had quite a group, but the breakaway comp plan broke my income, and people dropped off the back end as fast as I could put them in the front end. The company grew like a raging fire, they couldn't hold all the people at their national convention, just a small town in Oregon after all, having 10,000 people swoop in for a weekend was just too much!

The problem remedied itself, by natural selection, and due to several factors, the main one being product sales used as the system of growth, verses opportunity, the universal law of sales resistance manifested, and attrition took its toll. There were some bad press about product safety, and a scandal in the management team, and as quick as that company rose to power, it dissolved into a little mom and pop vitamin store, never heard of anymore.

I too lost interest when I found a service that no one could live without! Now this company has no real competitors, has an affordable service that everyone needs and can use regularly! Like being high on algae, I was high on the possibilities, and my energy transmuted itself into numbers, and I, being a good salesman started to sell, sell, sell, recruit, recruit, recruit, the company mantra.

Problem here was the company teaches old school and sales, and doesn't pay the part timer. So again as fast as I put them in they dropped off the back side a few months later. I made good commission in sales, but couldn't duplicate. It was frustrating spending all my profits on leads and tools, a big company cash cow, going to convention and listening to the hype, and the rhetoric of Red personalities, only to go home, and once the hype wears off, reality sets in.

It still takes around 2500 active members to earn a six figure income in that company, the math doesn't lie! So where does all the money go? Hmmm, a multi million dollar corporate office, personal jets, buying stock, hundreds of employees with top benefits... Way too much overhead, you'd think they would kick back some of the money they make on tools, and the pay for company web site, it adds up to millions! No, the part time distributor in the field doesn't see the profit, and loses interest eventually.

So whats my point? Are these the reasons that 98% will fail in this industry? Are all companies out there so greedy that the average Jane or Joe has more chance to be hit by lightening then to ever make it happen in Network Marketing?

You can be the judge! You can get educated on the industry, the Hype, the Lies, the Greed, the Math, the Policies that will ruin you, the Sales, verses Support, Recruit verses Sponsor mentality, the Systems, or lack of them, the Tricks and Traps that leave a legacy of Failure, and Frustration, that give Network Marketing a huge black eye.

Until I stumbled across the truth, I was doomed to fail, over and over again. Now you have a chance to start off with the truth, and not fail any longer, or spend your children's Legacy buying leads, tools, company conventions, and the next deal that comes around.

Will your ego allow you to educate yourself?

How much longer do you intend to be a player in the system of despair?

How long will you stand to be the prey?

I have an incredible story for you!

I know the feeling

Hi Paul, I saw myself in your story over and over, from amway and everything else. I believe greed has a lot to do with it. I tried all kind of things, so tired of all the "Get in now or loose it" mentality.
I'm in no rush to make money now. Thank you for this story hope others that hasn't lost to much will learn for this.
Keep up the good work.
your friend
Jack

Hey Jack, I always appreciate your comments, for sure!

Yes, I think greed has everything to do with it, and hype! Lets turn this trend around by education, when the greed is exposed through simple math, these companies will have to change, or go out like dinosaur's.

Take care friend!
