FORMing Your Conversations

Woke up this morning, eager to get started. I checked my inbox, and found 5 new Perfect Networker friends wanted to connect with me. I thought that was cool, because networking is a great way to help your business get a boost. Without meeting new people, we are at risk of stagnating in our social as well as our business lives.

Opinion about networking is a little different in some circles. On one side, you have those who want to develop a relationship, find out what you like and what you do before mentioning anything about themselves. On the other side of the spectrum are those who come straight to the point and tell you about their favorite MLM and how you should be one of their downline because they have 10,000 in their downline.

Who are you?

Let people know who you are after they have asked... Most people are happy to talk about themselves, and will take up an entire conversation talking about themselves. The funny thing about those conversations is that you are seen as a great conversationalist, when you simply let them talk about themselves. The best way to make friends in social networks is to ask people about their family, what they do for their occupation, what they do for fun and finally you steer the conversation around money! This is known as the FORM method for Family, Occupation, Recreation and Money. People will believe you are the best person since Elvis when you steer a conversation using this method, because you are finding out about them. Since that is their favorite topic, you are going to be a popular person!

In networking sites, the chance for you to talk about your business opportunity is in your about me section. That is where you are going to give some resources to help people save money or time, some websites you have found that really helped you, and then you mention what your business is. This way, you are not seen as the person who shows up in every networking dinner who throws business cards at everyone and incessantly talks about how his business will help you. I always avoid the used car salesmen at a party, too, because I don't want to know about the 1998 Pontiac Sunbird that would be perfect for my daughter.

Better call it a morning, and get ready for my show. I do a Blog Talk Radio show Tuesday mornings at 11AM Eastern Time. You are welcome to visit, it is called Blogging With Micheal and we talk about blogging, social networking and anything else that comes to mind. Have an amazing day!
