Why I Treat SEO, Social Media & PPC All The Same--While Making Lead Generation Easy
Many of you already know my story...
I started using social media and SEO and arrived on the scene practically overnight... and in 2 years built a multi-million dollar company generating leads through Social Media, SEO and just a tad bit of PPC.
If you follow my message here you'll learn why I see PPC, SEO and Social Media as the same--I recognize and use them at their foundational level (as lead tools).
But they have very little to do with success in lead generation. You'll learn why if you follow.
What's interesting to most people is that 2 years ago I learned what a blog was... and what SEO meant... for the very first time.
How did I generate thousands of leads on my list using a blog, within a few weeks of learning what a blog was for the first time, while others struggle after a year of tinkering--knowing more than I did technically?
How did I begin getting hundreds of hits to my blog and lead capture pages every day like clock-work using Twitter, when I barely knew how to use it... within days of setting up my account?
Why is it when I connect with a prospect on the phone they nearly always want to follow me? If I WANT them to.
It's called 'listening' and if you fully ENGAGE what's shared here and "listen" to the entire message... IF you focus on it--then everything you already know about marketing and business will start clicking.
Develop your ability to listen...
If you stay a while and study the two resources I share with you (returning to them if necessary) you will learn how to start:
- Listening to yourself so you nearly always choose the right opportunities for you and make business decisions that are nearly always profitable.
- Listening to prospects so the RIGHT ONES nearly always enroll or buy.
- Listening to entire target audiences so you know what content to create for them and how to set up a simple marketing funnel that attract HUGE NUMBERS ongoing through PPC and the social media space.
- Knowing what to say (and not say) at the right time on the phone, in person, and in comments and content online... so your time spent doing these things gets results rather effortlessly.
What we're talking about here is what I see most people miss.
Most focus on the tools (PPC, Social Media, Blogs, etc)--and that's a part of it of course.
But remember a business involves people.
It involves you, individuals you talk with, and entire groups.
Ignore the element of listening and you end up wasting a ton of money and time. Even if you do get somewhere, the work will be harder, the road will be longer and the money will be significnatly less.
Let me back up a bit here because we had a webinar last week to really help you get the power of this:
Ellie Drake Webinar On 'Listening'
If you missed the Webinar with Ellie Drake and I Thursday (on the power of focusing on coaching skills & "listening" in your business) -- We have that available here now.
Click to hear Ellie Drake discuss the power and details of coaching and listening skills in your business.
I'm going to continue working hard to merge what we've been teaching you about lead generation through social media and PPC, with the lessons you were introduced to on Thursday with Dr. Ellie Drake.
Without both the mechanics AND the intangible but very real "coaching" component, building your business is far more difficult. Our goal is to help you make it effortless.
Because it can be.
The initial response from those who attended last Thursday's event was highly energized, as I expected it would be. We've heard back from well over a hundred of the 800 who attended so far.
Here's what some shared after the event:
"This is the best training I could have asked for. What an amazing insight into what I must pay attention to and coach myself to become. Thank you so much for opening my eyes and my mind to a way of changing myself."
– Sherry Prince
"Mike, thank you so much for the call. Now I understand one of the reasons I learn so much from you. It's because you always come from that place inside you that is committed to a life of purpose every time you connect with us - a conscious decision you make when you teach, coach, listen, and lead. That's the culture you've created and we get the energy and blessings because of it! Thank you, dear friend!"
--Terri Stallcop
You were listening! Awesome!
And thank you.
Merging Coaching Skills (and listening) Into Your Business For More Effortless Results:
Barbara Silva, our coach of coaches, recently conducted a webinar on this same topic (integrating coaching / listening skills into your business practice), and discussed it from another vantage point.
I encourage you to watch this today if at all possible.
Because major shifts can take place in your results once you focus this other direction WHILE learning lead generation (again, by 'this direction' I refer to "learning how to listent to both yourself and your target audience).
Click to watch The Coaching Mindset with Barbara Silva - Why Developing Coaching Skills Will Save Time, Money, Effort and Your Nerves!
(Note: The introduction to this event and Barbara Silva was done by Eric Walker of Renegade Professional)
Here's just some of what you'll learn in this webinar with Barbara Silva:
- Making everything you have work MORE for you--taking the only real short cut
- What is the coaches mindset? What do coaches do?
- Why coaching skills are so important for your business-even if you never become a paid 'hired' coach
- Techniques you can start using today
- Glimpse of what its like to see the world through the eye of a coach
The more you study this topic, the easier everything becomes in your business.
The more results you get from ALL of your lead generation efforts. The more results you get on the phone with prospects. The more people continue to stay on your team. And the more effort they put in and results they attract.
I am continually amazed that THIS (coaching skills & "listening") are the least discussed & studied in the business world while its the most important piece.
Lead generation strategies like social media (my favorite), ppc (another great one), systems and prospecting techniques are usually what people keep circulating around and focusing on.
But as Ellie pointed out, and as we'll continue sharing with you--
Without coaching skills (effectively "listening" to yourself and others) you're stuck.
Your marketing won't connect.
Your conversations with prospects won't connect.
You won't connect to yourself, which impacts your business decisions.
It seems intangible but its "oh" so very REAL.
I think Ellie's call made that real for many of you.
Barbara Silva's webinar will also assist you to get focused on this direction.
Our goal is to make this skill a part of you and your business until everything you do just clicks.
Keep studying the topic. We'll keep supporting you in this process, including how to merge this with the technical things you do in social media or ppc to generate leads online, or what you do at social engagements and networking events... and on the phone.
Look for an email from me Monday with a link to Ellie Drake's call--digging deeper and deeper... so you can own these skills. This is a process. And the one that makes things change for the better, in a hurry.
In the meantime, watch this and start seeing what REALLY makes a business go.

Learning to Listen is Key
Ellie is truly a gifted woman in her intuitive ability to hear beyond the words that are spoken. She is a gifted teacher of the skill-sets of listening. The 9 Tips for Effective Listening shared on this call made me perk my ears up!
She is a woman who knows her destiny, who leads from a personal inner strength that is built from living through hardship. She has a vision and mission that exudes her writing, speaking, her being.
I attended a couple of BraveHeartWomen events and watched the room sit up straighter; connect with Ellie on a personal level. Really she walked among us, stood for photo ops, relished meeting those whom she coached by phone; did her best to make each woman feel acknowledged.
Each person touched by Ellie's life knows that someone special walked beside them for a distance.
We have much to learn from her yet.
Listen More And Talk Less
It's amazing to me how much you can learn about a person just by listening and body language. I learned this skill years ago when first starting out in business.
I also learned not to interrupt a person while there speaking, because I hate it when people do that to me. In normal conversations one person talks until they finish there thoughts and then the next responds to the topic at hand.
Effective communication is definitely a learned skill and Ellie did a wonderful job of explaining this the other night. Business is nothing more than learning how to deal with people, everything hinges on how well you're able to communicate whether that's in person, over the phone or though auto responders, and the only way to do this is to listen to what your customers want, it's really very simple.
Listening is the Key
Listening is so very effective.
Have you ever noticed how great people feel when they are being listened to. Listening to their heartfelt desires and paying attention is so rare today, that you can really make an impact when you do.
I was taught that God gave us 2 ears and one mouth so we should listen twice as much as we talk.
On the internet where there is so much noise and clutter, you might think that it is just the opposite. Really - in actuality - listening empathetically is what separates the great communicators from the "also rans".
I, also, enjoyed the call with Ellie Drake, and I have listened to the call again just yesterday. Her story is truly compelling.
Thanks a lot, Mike, for continuing to bring us such great resources.
Angela
Listening at another level
Merely listening is not enough - it needs to be at a level where you can interpret what was said and respond from the heart. It cant be -"In one ear and out the other" like my teen.
Ears, Mind and Heart....
A key factor in building that personal relationship is listening to the other person. But as Dotty says you must listen with more than your ears, listen with your ears, mind and heart. How to learn to listen to your prospect is taught by Barbara Silva in the Coaching Cognition classes, something that would help all marketers.
Learning to Listen
I am new to all this MLM stuff and attraction marketing. I'm "hearing" more and more of this issue of really listening, however, and I've begun to study this subject in hopes of hearing exactly what I should be listening for.
I didn't get the chance to hear Ellie Drake at the webinar but will be downloading it shortly.
Listen to yourself.
Wow. This is one we forget often. Listen to yourself. So many people try to do everything they are told to succeed---and forget who they are and what is most important to them. they forget to check their own values and interests when evaluating a business or opportunity. Listening to yourself is a big clue.
Thanks, Mike.
Listening with Ears, Mind and Heart....
Mike, right on target. Listening is the key component, when dealing with clients.
As many have said...
But to take it further, as Dotty has said, "listening with your ears is great", but having your mind and heart engaged will only complete it.
And that's exactly what you have shared with us by sharing how Ellie Drake and much more...
Thanks Mike,
Donna Wells
