Imitation vs Innovation
Managers are flattered by imitation.
Leaders are flattered by innovation.
We are always amazed by managers, calling themselves leaders, who are driven by ego and a need to control. They relish their role as director and decision maker for those in their organization. Their goal is to create a large team of followers who can each replicate a prescriptive task list. Why is creativity limited to those at the top?
Managers believe that people won't do anything unless you tell them exactly what to do. Their goal is to create more followers.
Leaders believe that people will do remarkable things if you empower them with exactly why they do them. Their goal is to create more leaders.
Managers are so busy managing they squelch innovation and obstruct genuine leadership.
Inspirational leaders, such as yourself, elevate people to think more of themselves... not more of the leader.
"Mentoring someone is not creating them in your own image,
but giving them the opportunity to create themselves."
~ Steven Spielberg
