If You want Local News, go to the Barber. If its Network Marketing Education you seek...
Small town Missouri, the best place to go for insiders knowledge and news is your local Barber Shop or Beauty Salon! I was passing by the town square of Mountain Grove, and spied "Murphy's Barber Shop on the corner. We may be related, and what ever can go right, will go right with a haircut at "Murphy's!" It was just nice to get out of the tropical heat wave for a few minutes.
Business was slow, just the barber, Pat Murphy, and his Dad, and another old timer, sitting around chewing the fat. I popped in and grabbed the chair, and became the center of attention immediately! Its always exciting when a newbie comes to town, got to pick his brain and find out what he's doing here! Having the same last name was a big help, and I told Pat, I have a brother with the same name, that got my foot in the door quick!
I turned the tables on them and before they could get into my life story, I asked them the secrets for catching the big ones, here in beautiful "Norfolk Lake," Missouri. I hit the right hot button, and the Dad jumped in and offered me some education on how you fish for the huge "Striper Bass" that populate the lake. He had the system down pat, and I was doing things so far from the proven system, it was no wonder that I couldn't even get a bite.
"You have to fish deep," he said, "and use a heavy rig. Those fish are big, up to 30 pounds, and if you hook one on light weight gear you'll lose it for sure!" He went to the back room and brought out a piece of tackle to show me, then explained exactly how to rig it up, and how to make it work. He pulled out his trusty fishing tackle catalog, and showed me just the right kind of bait to use, the best color, size and shape. He even went into Missouri fishing law, and told me the do's and dont's to keep me out of hot water with the authorities!
That was the best 7 dollar haircut I ever had, and a gave Pat a good tip too! I changed my whole fishing strategy, from what I was doing, that didn't work, to what I now know does work. I was so far off course, I didn't stand a chance to catch one of those monster sport fish, or even get a bite!
I don't have to tell you how this story relates to building a successful Network Marketing business, do I? The concepts are similar, and just as simple, you go to knowledgeable expert, get educated, and duplicate what's working for them. If your not using the system, or using the wrong gear, tools, or techniques, you won't have good results!
If your in a company that doesn't pay fairly, or has numerous "Gotcha" clauses in the contract, your doomed from the start. Simple isn't it? I wouldn't go to the local barber for education on what works in Network Marketing.
I'd go to the one's who have been there, done that, and do exactly what they teach and proven to work in today's extremely fast paced and competitive industry!

love the story
Even though I am not into fishing, I love the way you related it to network marketing and how important it is to learn from those who use a proven system.
Thanks Paul, you know how to tell a great story!

very clever
Moving from a system that didn't work to a duplicatable system that did work - what a brilliant concept! Someone should apply that to busness. Hey! Wait a minute...
Another great article Paul - well done again.
