Why is it so Hard to Quit Smoking?
It's not just the chemical addiction. Maybe it's the habit of smoking when you're drinking or at a bar, or having your morning coffee. It's hard to forget puffing on a cigarette. These triggers can be as strong as the chemical addiction. You can't see right off the harm that nicotine does, so it's not that bad, right? You don't lose your job over it, or lose your home, which can be true of alcohol or heroin addiction. It doesn't impair your everyday functioning in any way, no one lights up their first cigarette and dies.
Nicotine is carried deep into your lungs when you inhale and is quickly absorbed into your bloodstream. It affects many parts of your body, including your bodys metabolism, your heart and your brain. It causes pleasant feelings of satisfaction and calmness and you feel more focused. It's kind of a depressant that interferes with the information between nerve cells.
Quitting smoking is not going to be easy. You may have to try more than once. Good luck!
