How to Promote Your Opportunity on Craigslist in the Jobs Section

Read More: Classifieds  |  Marketing

Craigslist can be very tricky when it comes to advertising your home based business opportunity.  In fact, if your ads say anything about network marketing, mlm, or any remotely close to that... be prepared to have your ads flagged or your account suspended.

I know, I know.  We're just 'not supposed to advertise' on CL.  But think about this: someone who REALLY needs to make some extra income finds YOU and your biz opp... they get started and within a month they're making an extra $1k-2k per month.  Is this a bad thing?  I don't think you, the job seeker, or Craigslist will have a problem with that!!

However - there is a tricky part.  CL keeps track of everything like ad headlines, the CL account used to post the ads, the body of the ad, any links or images in the ad, and the IP address of the poster as well.  And if it looks like you're posting ALOT - your ads won't show up and you might not even know it!

To get over the basics of CL, I personally recommend a specific online community to teach you about this...  I just can't tell you through this blog (BetterNetworker doesn't like it when people promote products and such), but if you PM me I'll give you a link to THE resource I've learned from that allows me to DOMINATE Craigslist.

Now, the rest of this blog is going to assume that you know about setting up accounts, changing your IP, and preventing your ads getting "ghosted" using the basic strategies.

I'm going to talk specifically about getting your ads on to the jobs section.

First, I don't care what others say... do NOT use clickable links.  If you want someone to go to a website, then just type the URL... do NOT use 'href' or anything to put a link in to your ad.

Next, make sure you discuss what you EXPECT of your applicant.  Time commitment, ambition, etc...

If you discuss pay/commission, I don't recommend using big numbers and amounts earned per time (week, month, year...)  Usually if you use 'paid weekly' or 'commissions paid monthly', that will suffice for the 'pay' requirement under the jobs category.

Also, try and avoid pictures if you can.  Especially big ones.  Stick to a logo or something specific to YOU and not your opportunity.  If I did a job post with a "Global Resorts Network" logo, it would be misleading.  Use your YOU, INC logo instead (ifyou have one).  And make sure it's a small picture.

On a final note, I'm going to also share a secret that I've been working on... One that I'm JUST starting to launch this next week.

It's a 'home based career "matching" service'.  It's called RealHomeBasedCareers.com.  Applicants fill out a form, and they have to subscribe to an autoresponder series.  Then they're given a report that "matches" them to home based opportunities.  It just so happens that the 2 businesses are the two companies that I promote.  (haha)

Check it out and let me know what you think!

Happy marketing!

Using CL for biz opps

I've gotten a pretty good response using CL ads, it's not a huge percentage of new team members compared to the volume of initial responses, but even one pays for the ad pretty quickly. Do spread the ads out over time though, they stay up 45 days in some locales so even though it's tempting to post again, better to wait due to the tracking issues you mention. No pictures, no links, very good advice. and I just put commission + bonus potential for salary. It's accurate. I see many who say 'up to $5k-$10k a month' and it just seems to change the whole tone of the ad for me. Too much "sizzle" really sticks out like a sore thumb on CL jobs postings. I've only had one of my ads removed, and no, they don't tell you, it just never even posted. You will get an email if it's removed due to being flagged though. I like to go online after a few days and do a search to see if my ad comes up, and if there's any competing ads :)

Great info, I'll check out your new site when I have a moment.

The "Green Ghost"

Usually if you're looking for your ads under the same IP as when you posted them, they may be 'ghosted'.

I always change my IP w/ my verizon wireless aircard and then check all of my ads.  :o)
