Looking for a Home Business Model Which Actually Works?

Many people dream of owning their own business and providing a lifestyle for themselves and their family, that really does live up to expectation.

This has proved to be extremely difficult for most budding Entrepreneurs and many try and fail when their expectations fail dismally!

In a world where so many promises are made and yet very few are kept, you need to know your options and then make educated choices.

You need to look at the various home business models available today and decide on one which both suits your personality and your pocket.

The most common home business models are as follows:-

MLM
Affiliate Marketing

I will not discuss Franchises here as while they can be very profitable, they require massive start-up costs and business premises, so they do not generally fall under the “home business” model at all.

The majority of people who go looking for a home business model, generally get involved with either affiliate marketing or multi-level marketing. These are the models that I will discuss and then we can look at the difficulties and hopefully realistic solutions.

Multi-Level Marketing or MLM as is has become more popularly known, are based on the theory that you build a large team of like-minded business entrepreneurs and from duplication, everyone will make passive or residual income. Brilliant in theory and while there are a few who do go on to achieve great success, the majority fail for many reasons.

The ideal scenario, where everyone duplicates hardly ever happens, and the most common problem which MLM marketers face is the attrition and inactivity of team mates. MLM home business models generally have lower price points and require massive volume in sales (generally via recruiting), which through the nature of the beast, becomes the main focus of the MLM marketer.

Constant recruiting and managing a massive team is another skill set altogether and leaves very little time for effective retail product sales. Due to the restrictions on advertising, many MLM marketers are all fishing from the same small pond, hoping to catch that new recruit, who usually moves on when the next shiny thing presents itself. Yes it has become incestuous and with the advent of social media, everyone is out “sponsor shopping”. You may be today’s hero as mentioned in a previous article, but there is always another pied piper with a catchier new tune to follow!

It has also become increasingly difficult to advertise MLM or Business opportunity models on most advertising platforms. That definition of “Get Rich Quick” schemes is being applied across the board to all MLM models. As much as we may ignore this fact, it is an every day reality of trying to market MLM home business models effectively.

Any home business, requires a sensible marketing budget to bring in fresh prospects/customers and if you are unable to advertise, then you are on the back foot at the start. If you decide to go the MLM route then you will really have to become educated on how to thrive in the competitive environment. Just do the maths, if your income is reliant on building a large team and on duplication, then you cannot expect to swell your bank account overnight. Keep it real and you will not be disappointed.

Affiliate Marketers promote products or services and get paid a one off commission. Again dependent on what you are marketing, online lead generation can be tricky. Rule of thumb – anything which is perceived as being affiliate marketing or MLM is tricky to advertise. However, many people make a very decent living from affiliate marketing and it is a great way of generating instant multiple sources of income while you are building your business.

The same problem as the MLM market can be found with big affiliate launches due to the problems mentioned above. A small pond of prospects being shared on everyone’s JV list has diluted individual results and customer loyalty. With each launch, each marketer is trying to outdo the other by “buying” loyalty. Everyone is selling the same thing, but if you buy from me I will give you XYZ. Does that sound familiar? And what happens to the new kid on the block with these launches?

In spite of the above cautioning, I made a name for myself with Magnetic Sponsoring after less than 5 months in the industry, by competing in a big affiliate launch and knocking some of the bigger names with massive lists off their pedestals. So it is not impossible, if you have the courage and the marketing budget to take on the big boys and gals The sheer fact that I was coming about second in the lead generation competition gave me the edge and credibility for people who wanted to know who I was and it was amazing how many other marketers rallied and bought from me – IF I shared my marketing strategies with them – which I happily did!

Whether we like it or not our “perfect prospect” is weary of MLM – so bearing in mind all the above problems and obstacles, how do we find the perfect Home business?

A home business which substantially pays on our own efforts without the MLM label. And can we really attract customers who really want what we have to offer without having to perpetually recruit people who make unrealistic demands on our resources and time and who probably won’t duplicate, no matter how much you help them?

I eventually found my perfect Home Business that finally ticked all those essential boxes for me.

I wanted a home business which I could feel passionate about, but which was also product or service based. I wanted something that was easy to promote to the general population outside of the realm of opportunity seekers. A model that is high tier – pays substantially per sale to get the best return on my marketing spend and efforts and therefore did not require the time consuming and often stressful demands that are incumbent when building a large team.

My bank manager is thrilled and is already dangling facilities if I should require them A sound business model is what the banks look for and when I did the very conservative annual budget with them, my bank manager was very pleased to say the least. If I had been involved in an MLM, I doubt I would have got through the door and come out intact!
