Here is the second of two recent posts I made to one of my USANA e-mail lists. The first is titled Online Social Networking.

Along the lines of BetterNetworker.com, another organization I recommend is BNI. There have been posts in this forum over the years about BNI. I'd like to add my own contributions to this topic.

Just this past Thursday I did my ten-minute presentation at BNI about USANA. Like BetterNetworker.com, BNI is very strict with its rules. Unlike BetterNetworker.com, BNI absolutely forbids any mention of network marketing. It seems that MLM left a bad taste in someone's mouth over the years, so BNI is entirely product/service-oriented.

I'm happy to play by the rules, as long as I know them up front. So my ten-minute presentation focused solely on Dr. Wentz's vision and USANA's three product lines. I took the Health & Freedom PowerPoint, removed all mention of the business opportunity, and sped through the remaining sixteen slides at breakneck speed to get them done in a little over ten minutes.

The comments I received afterwards were phenomenal. My fellow chapter members told me that this was one of the most professional presentations they had ever seen. The regional director for the entire state of New Hampshire was in attendance, and he came up to me afterwards beaming. He told me how pleased he was that I didn't mention network marketing at all.

Now, if you think about it, USANA's compensation plan supports this. We get paid on movement of product, not on recruiting new associates. So BNI has an argument in its favor. If we concentrate on the product, our commission checks grow. We'll naturally attract people into the business, and the right people at that.

In my own case, I've begun to get people approaching me with questions about the business, even when I don't mention it. Sweet.

There can be only one health & wellness professional in any BNI chapter, so you might need to look around to find a chapter you can join. Fortunately for me, there are a dozen chapters within a ten-mile radius of Portsmouth, N.H. I imagine larger urban areas will have even more.
