Should you get free prospect leads or pay for them?

With so many ways out there to generate leads it's important to understand
both methods including which one would be best for you depending on your circumstances.

What are Paid Prospect Leads?

A paid prospect lead is any lead that you generate for a cost.

First off let me start off by saying that buying prospect leads usually starts off by purchasing them from a third party - outside of the realms of your primary company.

There's something about buying prospect leads that sort of makes people cringe.   As if when you "buy leads" it's some horrible secret that no one is supposed to know about.  Here are both the advantages & disadvantages of purchasing prospect leads.


Benefits of Buying Prospect Leads

  1. Saves time if you have other commitments like a job, or perhaps the busy life of a stay at home mom with children.
  2. If you buy from the right source that has good service, more than not you'll be speaking with only the most qualified prospect leads.
  3. A lot of the third party systems do a really great job at calling your leads for you and edifying you.  This is a really good way for those prospect leads to feel as if they'll be getting on the phone with a leader.
  4. Even if your prospect leads don't join you in business it gives you really great practice with your phone skills - and this by far is an INVESTMENT into honing your communication and phone skills.

Disadvantages of Buying Prospect Leads

  1. Buying prospect leads can be pretty pricey, I mean sure you can probably get inexpensive or really cheap ones, but trust me inexpensive almost exclusively also means "not-so-great quality leads."
  2. Unless your phone skills are up to par, you may struggle with closing anyone in your business.
  3. When you pay for your leads there is no relationship being built therefore you may have more of a hard time getting them to join since they are essentially "cold market."
  4. You're more likely to be tied to the outcome.  You see when you pay for leads it's hard NOT be tied to the outcome of whether or not that prospect lead signs up into your business opportunity.  Why? Because often, when there is money invested and isn't much work put into generating prospect leads (by paying for them), then there's almost an unrealistic expectation that somehow because you've cut through all of the "nitty gritty" that it will be easier to recruit.
  5. Leads may NOT be exclusively yours, depending on where you're buying your leads from you may actually get prospect leads that have been called over and over again from other people.  So when you finally call you're like the millionth person that has reached out to them. - NOT COOL..and it's probably totally annoying to the prospect.

What Are Some Benefits Of Generating FREE Prospect Leads?

  1. The obvious one being FREE, this is an option that anyone can do and can start doing right away if they have the right training in place.
  2. There's a certain type of posture that comes with generating leads, you know that you've worked to get them and because of that you will be less likely to be tied to the outcome.
  3. There are LITERALLY massive ways to generate free leads, and really it's only as limited as your creativity.

What Are The Disadvantages of Free Prospect Leads?

  1. TIME, TIME, TIME...that is it takes a TON of patience.  Generating free prospect leads can at first be time consuming especially if you're not sure of what you're doing and you're not really not sure of what real marketing is, specifically how to grow your business online.
  2. There's fierce competition because everyone is doing it, so if you're going to do it, you better be good and committed at mastering it.
