Growing Your Twitter List With "TweeterGetter" Can Be Controversial

More updates on Tweeter Getter tool.

If you're not using Twitter to build relationships for your business, you certainly should be.  It's the simplest and most effective networking tool I've seen and used for business.

Now there's a new tool that's appeared that uses viral marketing to build your Twitter following... it's called "Tweeter Getter" -- But before you use it there are some things to think about.

I started using Tweeter Getter the other day, and sure enough, it has already started building my Twitter list by about a thousand more followers so far (I have 8000+ followers in total--the other 7000 I built the 'old fashion' way as I'll continue to do).  I've been watching the followers lists grow significantly for others as well, who started promoting Tweeter Getter, so I'm convinced it is indeed working and I'm liking what I see so far.

But Some Caution--

If you're going to use this to build your followers list, it needs to be done 'mindfully'...

Tweeter Getter is controversial tool in the Twitter community--most people (non marketers in particular) don't 'get' the benefit of growing a Twitter following unless you have personally connected in some way.  I 'see' why they may have this perspective--I've expressed the same opinion about using other 'spammy' methods for building 'friends lists' in social sites.  But I see this quite differently.  This doesn't have to be done in a spammy way at all.  And you can build relationships and provide value to those who follow you from Tweeter Getter just as you can from those who follow you any other way. So I do not see the Tweeter Getter tool as an annoyance if it is shared properly.

Initially, I hesitated to share Tweeter Getter because of some concerns I outline below... but after studying the debate I decided to let my community (at Marketing Merge) know about it.  It started as half social experiment and the other half exciting and interesting.  Now I'm glad I did it because I am realizing that the list of followers that are joining due to Tweeter Getter are my target audience (business or marketing minded)--I've even started developing some great discussions and relationships revolving around the services I offer so these Twitter followers are as good as they come.  As long as you're dialoguing and providing value, using Tweeter Getter will build your business.

Here's Basically What I Told Our MM Community -- If You Share This Tool With Your List You Should Do So With Some of These Things In Mind...

It's an exciting opportunity to use a viral building tool like Tweeter Getter to help build an audience more quickly using a social site as young as Twitter (that's growing as rapidly as it is).

This tool does have the potential to give you a short cut to building your Twitter follower list if you use it and share it.  But you have to be thoughtful in how you share it, which I'll explain.

The controversy:

Promoting this link is considered by some on Twitter to be quite annoying if you do it in a spammy way (just blasting it out over and over again).  That is understandable. If you go to search.twitter.com and type in tweetergetter you will be able to read from all the people who hate it (and some who like it).

But some just don't like viral tools like this... for the same reason they don't like MLM or network marketing in general.  In addition, many 'marketers' do not believe in short cuts to building a list or following.  They teach to build relationships (and I agree).

Taking Short Cuts...

I don't typically suggest people try to take short cuts because usually that distracts them from building relationships and providing value... however, this particular tool simply ads more people onto your followers list so if you're engaging people in discussions and using Twitter to connect with poeple as it was designed, this tool (Tweeter Getter) will only help you do more of what you should be doing, attracting relationships and customers to your business and products.

If you decide to use this tool on Twitter, share it with some value added, such as I've done here.  Refer to a blog post or video you create about it... Share your thoughts and other people's opinion of it--express your opinion.  Don't just promote it without letting people know about the controversy of it.  Be transparent.

Now, you can promote it however you like without so much discussion at places where that is acceptable (which is what I'm doing)... I suggest using traffic exchanges like Traffic Swarm since it is the kind of place viral marketing tools like this are accepted and even liked.

A real review - thanks

You're right about the controversy Mike. And this is the first time here on BN i've seen someone actually give an insight into this rather than jsut the copy and paste info.

I probably won't go for it after reading this, though I wouldn't have gone for it anyway through the copy and paste stuff either, lol.

I guess I'm maybe old fashioned though that's probably more to do with my age than my experience online. I just don't like the idea of adding folks simply to get the 'numbers'. And my reputation counts for a lot, even if just to me.

How targeted is it really?

That is my only concern with tweeter getter. You can send it all over the place but is it really targetted? I like to get more of a targetted following..
