Don't Be a Twit When You Tweet!
I can't tell you how many people I've spoken to who's pet hate on Twitter is being bombarded with never-ending links from the same person.
From their welcome DM and normal DM's to all their tweets, all you ever get is a link to check out the next best thing they're promoting.
We all know that Twitter can play a huge part in marketing and networking these days, but that is no excuse to throw etiquette out the window and go into pitch mode 24/7. Apart from being highly annoying, it's probably the quickest way to lose respect and interest from your followers.
Every time I get a welcome DM with a blatent sales pitch, I feel like stabbing myself in the eye with a dart! In saying that, I have nothing against people who try to get you to connect with them on other social media sites...at least they're trying to build a relationship as such. And that's the whole idea of networking isn't it? To build relationships for the present and for the future.
But those who pollute Twitter with sales pitch after sales pitch without giving anything of value, they're making it hard for the people who are actually trying to use Twitter to build relationships and get their message out there.
Don't be a twit when you tweet!
