Prospecting With Christian Mentorship
These are simply my views and opinions and I don’t judge anyone else for theirs. Everyone has the right to believe what they want and I respect that, totally. I can only speak for myself here. And, it’s my blog so I’m free to do that here without having to be politically correct.
It’s no secret if you’ve read my story that I’m a Christian, meaning a follower of Jesus Christ. I believe that He was crucified on the cross and died, paying the price for my sins. I believe on the 3rd day He arose and is coming back again. He’s my personal Savior. I look to the Holy Scriptures (The Bible) as my guide and handbook for living the best life I can.
Am I perfect? Am I close to perfect? Good grief NO! Far from it! I’m just forgiven by Jesus, and that’s the good news! He died on the cross and bore all my sins and today He stands in my place and stead at the Judgment seat of Heaven.
So, what does this have to do with my business? And Christian mentoring?
I believe that being a Christian mentor simply means that I choose to apply the Biblical teachings on a daily basis, not only in my personal life, but also as they apply to my business. It starts in my ad copy, not pushing my faith, but simply sharing who I am because people have a right to know about who they will be partnering with if they join me, and in my prospecting, if I'm asked, I affirm my beliefs.
When dealing with prospects, I'm adamant about leaving out the hype and drama and promises of making huge money if they just join me. I let them know that building a home based business takes hard work and commitment, but the rewards for putting in their time and effort, working through the learning curve and maintaining consistent resolve is well worth it. I believe I have that responsibility to let others know before they join.
Why? Because I would want the same information. I want to be treated like a professional business owner, not a number with a dollar sign on my forhead. I would feel respected and appreciate the honesty. I know that every copywriter would attack my position because people "buy on emotion" but I can't in good conscience, manipulate or paint a picture to someone that's all roses without letting them know there's a lot of work to be done, growth to be done, a learning curve to go through and this is a long term build. Can they make money along the way? Absolutely. But I clean up the "pie in the sky" picture.
My Christian Mentorship looks like this:
1) Not being ashamed of, or hide, my Christian faith in the workplace
2) Praying for my business partners and their families
3) Praying for wisdom to know how to lead and help and serve others
4) Trusting that God will bring to me those individuals whom He wants me to help
5) Looking for His blessings throughout each day and giving Him the credit
6) Being honest with everyone
7) Being willing to help and pay it forward to others, expecting nothing in return
8) Giving my tithes and offerings to the Lord, acknowledging that all things come from Him.
9) Doing my best and knowing that the Lord will do the rest. Don’t worry or stress.
10) Not asking others to do anything I wouldn’t do
11) To not talk about others in a negative way, participate in gossip and slander
12) To accept people for who they are and where they’re at.
13) To encourage and lift up those I come in contact with
14) To be my authentic self, accepting myself for who I am and where I’m at, always striving to be better
The list can probably go on and on. But this gives you an idea of my thought process as I go through each day.
I look to my Lord everyday for guidance in my business. Everyday I pray that I learn something new to apply in my business and bring someone into my life that I can be a blessing to.
In my mentorship and working with business partners, I hope that my actions speak louder than words. I don’t preach to my team or anything like that, but rather I remember that my actions, how I treat people, the words I use, the patience I demonstrate, the genuine way that I care, these are the ways that I show I love the Lord. I hope my life is simply a reflection of Jesus.
Of course I have my bad days like everyone else. And sometimes it’s a little harder to be what I know I should be, but I do my best to be the leader and mentor for those who come across my path.
If you don’t know Jesus and the freedom in life He gives, or His unconditional love and forgiveness, I invite you to read the Scriptures and learn more about Him. If you ever want to talk, I’ll be available. I can’t imagine going through life without Him. I can’t imagine running a business without Him.
