My Goal is To Reach 100 Stars Today!
Ok...here is the deal. When I went to school we had hardly any days off from school except around Christmas. The school district that we live in has more holidays and time off than any other I have ever seen. It makes you wonder when do they actually learn anything? I am talking about the high school (9-12) level. Between all the Benchmarking, SOL tests, preparation time for those tests, holidays and days off, when do they actually have time to teach the kids anything?
Let's see. Monday was MLK day-No school. Didn't we just get back from having off two and one half weeks off at Christmas?
Tuesday we had a "Snow Day" where we were woke up at 5:40am with the phone ringing and the announcement letting us know that there was "no school for the day." Ask me if we got one snowflake....NOT! Day wasted. Daughter got to 80 Stars!
Wednesday kids are back at school. Half day if you have two exams because it is Finals, Benchmarking and whatever else they want to call it. Kids out at noon.
Thusday another half day for the same thing as Wednesday. Now up to 89 Stars by the end of the day!
Friday another half day but now she only has one exam--out of school at 10a. Today her goal is to reach 100 Stars!
Monday is half day which was originally scheduled to be a day off. Now going to school from 10a-noon because last Tuesday's snow day messed everything up so all classes were moved up one day.
Tuesday is a day off--AGAIN!!!! Monday and Tuesday were supposed to be in-service Teacher days!
Do you see what I mean? By the time they really get back to learning it will have been almost two weeks. One of my other daughter's is a teacher in one of the Texas school districts. She said this is unheard of to have so many days off...they have to grade papers and do all their work without days off.
Dont get me wrong....I know teachers work hard because my daughter is one. So please don't get up in arms about that. That is not what this is about.
The fact that my daughter's goal for today is 100 Stars on Mario is just unbelievable when it is in the middle of a school year and she is at home playing Video games. And the madness does not end until next Wednesday when the FINALLY go back to school full time until the next holiday!
Something is definitely wrong with this picture. And people wonder what is wrong with our school systems........

The School system is a Dinosaur
When people figure that out, it will either change, or go the way the Dinosaurs did! Is that where the term Old School came from?
public schools
It would be better titled the public indoctrination system.

What schools teach
I was reading a book that said something like schools are pretty much like employee assembly lines. They get kids in and teach them how to become employees. The problem with this, in my opinion, is why don't schools teach kids to own their own business? Sure there are classes that you can take for business management (I have an associates in it) but schools do not teach you the mental parts of it. We entrepreneurs have to find out that information from others like Michael Dlouhy, Tom "Big Al" Shreiter, Donald Trump, Robert Kioyosaki and many others.
I guess if I were to take a guess it would be because the teacher or possibly even the person who designed the curriculum has never owned a business. If this is the case then no wonder why so many businesses fail. The student goes to get a degree in business, but does not know how to manage their business mentally.

You Are Absolutely right...
They need to be taught how to balance a checkbook, how to run a business, how to be in a long-lasting relationship.... the list is endless. I am watching a story right now about how they are not even teaching cursive writing any more! What on earth is this country coming to?
I guess, though, that a lot of this needs to be taught at home. But from what I see these days, that does not happen. The old time nuclear family has broken into a million pieces and no one has time for the kids any more. It is easier to set them in front of a computer, a cell phone or a video game than it is to deal with them.
In my house, we sit down almost every night at the dining room table for dinner and discuss the day, have some fun and bond with each other. I think this is a tradition that has been lost in this day and age. Sad......

school quality decline
a major decline in our schools started and continues with the invasion of education by Psychiatry as a way for them to gain control of all people by getting to them early as children.
You can see how this has been implemented at www.cchr.org and www.figntforkids.org and www.ablechild.org
Now children are labeled as having a syndrome or mental disease for any little thing they do that is normal behavior of children and people, just to get them on drugs to make millions of $$$.
Another problem with current school systems is that most of them aren't aware of 3 major barriers to study that cause physiological responses but have simple non-medicative solutions. see: www.appliedscholastics.org
