Talking To Prospects On The Phone

Recently, the network marketing company that I am involved in and solely promote through my resource web site, has made some significant changes that have caused me to get on the phone more with prospective new independent business owners.
I've been a student of using the phone, prospecting, lead generation, business building and things of this nature for years and it never fails... as soon as you start to let yourself go and not think about why you are doing what you are doing, everyone that you talk to turns into someone they are not. Not because of who they are, but because you have lost the concept and idea of who you are.
So what is the quick fix for this? Stay on your game and always have your reason "Why?"
I had take about a year off from using the phone and talking to a ton of people, so I knew that I was going to have to brush up somehow. So what did I do? I listened to Mike Dillards interview with Mark Wieser for Black Belt Recruiting.
Anyone who is honest in any field will tell you that no matter how high up in their game they are, they always learn as much as they can and they make sure they are always fresh.
That interview reminded me that I have to say "No" to some people and really help people understand that my time is worth a lot of money and I am interviewing them for a great fit and not the other way around.
In so doing, in the past week I can't tell you how many people I've talked to who said, "So give me your pitch... what is your business?" hahaha, I paused for a moment and said "Listen, I am not here to sell you on anything, how about you tell me about yourself, what you are looking for and why you want to work from home and we will go from there"
This not only makes the person start explaining himself or herself, it turns me into someone that wants to know more and not just some sales guy from some mlm company that is trying to get X amount of dollars out of someones pocket.
I know that my company is worth every penny so I am not interested in recruiting everyone that may say yes or is looking. I am only looking for the right people and by interviewing people and asking them specific questions that help me find out more about them, I save a ton of time finding out if I want to keep talking with them or if I want to direct them to a great resource to find something they may fit better with.
Then of course, I refer them to my resource web site http://The-Successful-HomeBusiness.com and let them know that it doesn't matter what home business they are involved in, there are many resources on that web site that will help them grow their business.
Everyone is looking for something, so I find that it makes my day go a lot better by being more of a traffic director than a recuiter of sorts.
