"Home-based businesses are one of the fastest growing segments in our economy, and that trend will only continue” – Paul Pilzer. People are seeking alternatives to the grind of working for someone else for a very small return on their efforts. Most people are taught to study hard in school and get good grades; go to college, so you can get that good-paying JOB; get married, buy your house and have 1 ½ children and live the American Dream. But many people are waking up to the fact that the American Dream, as just described, is no dream at all. For many, it is a nightmare of routine and never ending debt. (Read Robert Kiyosaki’s book, entitled “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” for an eye opener).
Home businesses offer the following advantages over the traditional job:
- YOU are the boss.
2. Your commute is 60 seconds from your bedroom to the kitchen (for coffee) to
your home office.
- You enjoy the tax advantages of owning your own business.
- You make your own schedule and work as much or as little as you find profitable.
5. You can choose the kind of business that you want to pursue. What do you
ENJOY doing?
6. You can share your passion with like-minded people and enhance their lives as
well.
I could go on and on, but I won’t. Don’t get the wrong impression, though. Running your own business, from your home, is not an automatic proposition. The instructions do not come in a box. You must learn how the Internet works: which Company do I want to represent or do I want to start my own company from scratch? What products do I want to promote? Are people in need of and searching for what I am about to offer? How do I present my offering to them – Your Website? How do I promote my website and product(s) – Your Advertising?
There are also many business models to choose from. There is Multi-level Marketing, Direct Sales, Affiliate Marketing, Membership Sites, Internet Portals – just to name a few.
There is a lot to learn. My observation, over the past several years working on the Internet, is that two things are absolutely essential for you to succeed: 1) You must have a MENTOR – someone who can and is willing to teach you all of the above (or you can spend months and years researching the “How-To’s” of marketing on the Internet for yourself) and 2) You must have a SYSTEM that does most of the mundane work for you, so you can concentrate on income-producing activity.
There are mentoring programs available on the Internet that you can spend from as little as $19.95 per month for, to as much as $25,000 or more. Some are reputable and some are not. “Caveat Emptor” – “Let the buyer beware.”
There are also many systems that can be purchased, or that come attached to a particular business opportunity. Again, beware and do your homework. On the Net, not all things are as they seem. Many people have spent thousands of dollars on programs that just don’t work.
If this all seams a bit daunting to you, don’t feel bad. Many would-be entrepreneurs don’t know where to begin on the Internet.
