Tweet-Tweet
Twitter continues to receive a lot of hype. And to support the throngs using that microblog, there are countless Twitter applications.
Many of these apps are automated, and I suspect this is the source of the latest problem.
Every time I log into yahoo mail, the account I used to set up my Twitter account, I am confronted with 10 or more announcements that "So-In-So" is now following me on Twitter.
As it happens, I value my Twitter account, so I always check the profile of any new follower to see if that person is someone I would like to follow back.
If you have a yahoo mail account, you know how sluggish it is. It takes me at least 25 minutes to check 10 emails and be redirected to Twitter.
It is aggravating to discover that 9 out of 10 requests are from "suspended" accounts. I suspect this is due to these folks using automated Twitter applications.
And it isn't just newbies using this technology. Among the countless notices I get daily from suspended accounts is one from a well-known internet marketer.
I have the feeling that people who resort to automated tactics to build their list of followers into the thousands don't care about me or anyone. They just care about marketing their products. They are seeking an impersonal solution to time management in a social venue where being "real" and "genuine" and sharing useful information is key to developing relationships.
If you are experiencing the same annoying announcements that lead nowhere, let me know how you are handling it. I frankly can't figure out what to do except turn the notifications off, which would be my loss. I've hooked up with some exceptional people on Twitter who have very worthwhile information to share and I've found dozens of them as a result of them following me.
