Focus Focus Focus
“People think focus means saying yes to the thing you’ve got to focus on. But that’s not what it means at all. It means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are. You have to pick carefully.” -Steve Jobs-
I felt that this was a great quote to start this post off with, especially for the newbies out there, and even the vets, we all fall into this trap every once in a while.
When starting in a home based business there is something that you should follow and that is this, start one thing at a time and finish that thing before you move on.
Look we all want to get some where fast, but fast isn’t always the answer, when starting out there are a million things you want to do and a million more you need to do. You need to pick one at a time (preferably the most important one) and focus on it until it’s done, only then should you move on.
If it helps, make a list. Write down in no particular order all the things that you want to get done, or all the things that you would like to do, in your business. Maybe that is starting a twitter account, which in starting that account the second thing you should do is follow me. The next is purchasing your own domain name, and on and on until you have everything you can think of on your list.
There are a ton of things that your are going to need to do to get set up, and I mean a ton, and they are going to seem overwhelming, that’s ok, just break them down so they don’t seem so overwhelming and chip away at them one at a time most important to least imortant until they are all done.
After your up and running, run your business the same way, maybe you want to write a blog entry a day as well as comment on twitter, submit something to BN, and send out an e-mail to your subscribers, tackle them one at a time.
My brain got scrambled today and I felt as though I was never going to get any thing done. I pulled up Mr. Jobs quote took a deep breath and went to work. Did I get everything done? No, but I did get every thing that I was focused on done, including this post.
