Complacency - Being Ignorant To "What Is"
Complacency - Being ignorant to "what is"
I was producing an audio success coaching product for one of my companies - Penta Performance Int'l back in February '08 with a dear friend Danish Ahmed. You may remember Danish's remarkable story from last week's e-report. During the phenomenal 45 minute conversation about success and happiness, I asked him:"Danish, what's the determining factor that holds someone back from attaining a life of prosperity, happiness, and abundance."
One of the critical factors he responded was "complacency". I couldn't agree with him more. The dictionary describes complacency as:
"A feeling of contentment or self-satisfaction, especially when coupled with an unawareness of danger, trouble, or controversy."
Here in North America, people are particularly prone to complacency because of the strength our economy has had for so many decades. Having the largest middle class group in the world - it makes perfect sense that so many people can attain a life of self-satisfaction. However, where the challenge lies, is a life of comfort, self-satisfaction, and effortlessness is drastically different from a world of happiness, prosperity, and abundance.
Furthermore, what I found very troubling, yet correct about Danish's insight into complacency, is that the collective consciousness of our middle class is generally quite unaware with the harsh realities of the economic alterations that are currently occurring. This ignorance to the truth is actually setting millions of families up for a harsh tidal wave of adversity in the years ahead.
At one point in time, complacency was simply a synonym for comfort. However, as the North American middle class continues to decrease due to globalization, what was satisfactory and comfortable at one time could now leave you in harms way of economic instability and turmoil.
No longer do the days of relying on one's particular company to support you and your family your entire life exist. No longer can you confidently expect a government pension plan or program to take care of you indefinitely. No longer can you rely on your family for financial support and dependence.
Due to the way the world and economy is evolving is that a superior level of responsibility for one's future is all that can be tolerated. Anything outside of responsibility and inside of complacency can only leave you and your family in harms way.
The first step of getting outside of complacency is starting to involve yourself with a community of people that are out to cause a difference in their life and others. I found the need of a community that stands for others as a necessary platform to accelerate one's own personal success in life.
