3 Essential Keys To Winning In Network Marketing and Business

It’s no surprise that most people who start a home based business via network marketing lose more money than they make. About 97% do.

That really sounds like a lot, and the mainstream media loves to eat these statistics up. But what they don’t tell you is that’s true for free enterprise in general, NOT just network marketing. Most businesses fail. Period.

So what does it take to win? Quite frankly, there are three essential keys that you need to master.

Essential Key #1: MINDSET

I put mindset first because this is where it all begins. The reality is you will not make more than think you are worth. And most of us has been brought up in the devastating ‘rat-race’ with a paycheck to paycheck mentality that has programmed us to think we’re worth a lot less than what we really are.

This programming has long-term disastrous effects for most people, for example:

  • You will settle and accept whatever you think you are worth. For most people, this is not much at all.
  • It will invite fear and inhibit you from taking risks and thinking big. And fear will destroy you if you do not defeat it.

Now the real question is how do you deprogram this garbage and get what you’re really worth? Well, the answer lies within your mindset. Period. Everything you have in life is just a culmination of your thoughts. Your best thought got you to where you are today. And where you are today is an effect.

Your mindset is the cause. Cause and effect.

If you really want to change the effect, then change the cause (your mindset). You will note I emphasized really because most people don’t really want to move forward. It’s too easy to just ‘get by’ and face the daily grind, complain about work, talk about the business you’ve going to start one day soon and watch TV that keeps you in fear.

So, how do you develop a mindset that will allow you to win in network marketing? Or business in general.

First and foremost, you must engage in personal development. And I’m not talking about any pie-in-the-sky ‘rar rar’ nonsense. I’m talking of getting deep down and developing habits and patterns that all you to attract what you want in life.

Make this note: Personal growth is the best way to really develop the type of mindset required to win in business in general. Period.

Bill Gates is an active participant in personal development.

So is Robert Kiyosaki.

So is Donald Trump.

And so am I. Why does this matter? Because I make money online even while I sleep and provide great value to you when I’m on vacation.

I highly recommend you start with three books to get you started with personal growth:

  1. Think and Grow Rich
  2. Rich Dad, Poor Dad
  3. Richest Man in Babylon

Another great way to make it easy to develop a strong mindset is through the power of association. You need to spend quality time (whether on the phone, on blogs, on DVD or CDs, etc.) with successful entrepreneurs that will inspire you to move forward.

The average person makes the amount of money of the average of the 5 people they spend the most time with. If you want more money, associate yourself with those who are there. If you spend most of your free time talking to your neighbor who is broke and always complaining, chances are, you will be broke and always complain.

Birds of a feather flock together. This is NOT rocket science.

Essential Key #2: MARKETING

Marketing is like an enigma in network marketing, particularly within the MLM culture.

You get all jazzed up on a conference call and you’re told the product will sell itself. And so most networkers get caught up in that incestuous cycle and never learn marketing. They become peddlers and just solicit people they can and over time, buyers remorse sets in and most of them will quit.

If only they knew how to market…

Listen, no one is going to come knocking at your door or your Web Site for your product or to become a business partner without proper marketing.

Also, make this note: The dynamics are different when people come to you versus you coming to them. Think about it. People go to Best Buy to buy a TV and they sell a lot of them. Now do you think they’d have the same success if they just went door to door or started cold calling people and trying to sell them a TV. NO!

The network marketing industry as a whole hasn’t seemed to understand this concept for some reason. The marketplace has evolved from the early days of network marketing. People are now fortunately able to do some research on companies (and sponsors) and see if that sponsor company is using effective marketing before they sign the dotted line.

Effective marketing (what I like to call analytical marketing) is all about activities that produce a predictable result over time.

Let’s cross this bridge right now about effective marketing:

You must spend money to make money.

Yes, there are free marketing tactics such as Craig’s list and natural organic search engine traffic from Web Sites and blogs, but those take time to do. And … time is money.

So bring to the table time or bring money. Better yet, bring both.

Here’s a question I like to ask people. If you can spend $1000 to make $1000 profit or 100 hours to make $2000 profit without spending a dime, which would YOU pick?

The answers always vary, but the best one is rarely said: BOTH!

Certainly the ROI is higher on $2000 than $1000, but it took you 100 hours to do it. That’s the trade off. In the other scenario, you had to spend money up front to get the return, but cash flow is cash flow and if I can put a $1.00 in a machine and get $1.25 back, count me in.

I highly recommend doing both. More importantly, learn marketing and do something! Most networkers do NEITHER (I don’t have the money to “take a risk” or “it’s too hard to learn”). If you want to be part of the 3% that make money than you spend, then learn marketing because I promise if you don’t, your business is going to fail and you’ll be part of the 97% statistic.

Essential Key #3: MISSION

There’s a reason every successful business has really great and inspiring mission statements. If you want success, you need to have a mission that inspires you to get there. It needs to be specific.

Most of us, including myself, start off with no mission and just want the money. It’s all about ME, right? The problem is most people pick up on this (whether through conversations, through marketing materials, etc.) Most networkers come across as “needy” or desperate.

We’re just social animals and we are attracted to successful people, especially those that can help you improve the quality of your life. We all want to know “what’s in it for me.” And if what’s in it for your prospects is just to fatten your pockets, you will lose them.

Realize this early. Make your mission to help others first and receive second. Increase your value to the marketplace (remember, the marketplace is evolving and they are seeking individuals who can really and ethically assist them) and learn something the masses don’t know.

After all, you’re not going to make more money because you “want it.” EVERYBODY wants to make more money and get more free time. And if were that easy, we’d all be rich and have everything we wanted. Most people, however, are not willing to do what it takes to get there (remember, it’s extremely easy to “get by”).

Your mission can drive you in doing what it takes to get there. It brings passion into your life. And believe me, it’s got to be a passion! When you’re passionate about doing your business and closing in on your mission, the sky is the limit. When Michael Jordan was winning championships, the last thing he was thinking about was money. That’s passion.

So think of a good mission that can inspire others and keep you passionate. It can - and probably will - evolve over time, but get one.

My mission right now is to assist 10 people become totally free (and I mean totally free of debt and fear) and assist 1000 people in making their first $100 in Network or Internet Marketing.
