Getting Ready to be Thankful!

Thanksgiving is about a week away. I always start making my “thankful” list at about this time. I view it as priming my internal gratefulness pump.

Remember those old water pumps that you needed to prime a few times before the water came out. That’s what I’m thinking of here. I think we need to “prime” ourselves to be fully and deeply grateful for the life we have – whatever state we are in right now.

I think this is especially important at times like these during which many of us feel scared and worried about our financial state. In fear we contract our whole bodymind. Our muscles tense, our joints stiffen and our brains withdraw shutting off creative flow and feelings of delight, gratitude, and joy.

You might be asking, with the economy in such trouble, the country (world) waiting in fear that major industries will go south and the jobless rate will increase dramatically, that the housing market will collapse, and any other dire prediction we hear on the news these days…what’s there to feel delight, gratitude, and joy about?

Well, how about the sun on a cold day, or rain in the dry season, or (here in the Midwest) the flowers that love the frosty weather! How about hearing your child laugh out loud, or the taste of a great soup made with love? Or what about that your clothes still fit you or the friend you saw on your walk this morning. In other words, what about every little fact of your life.

We have a choice and if we don’t use it, we’re destined to be controlled by anyone else with another idea. That choice is how we view things. That choice is to appreciate what we have in front of us, to be grateful rather than fearful, to be delighted rather than disgusted, to be joyful rather than disjointed.

Of course this means that we’ll need to change our focus and look for what supports us, who loves us, what sustains us. We need to look and we need to notice. (And when we notice the good, we attract more good to us!)

I personally think that is a much better use of my time and energy. That’s why I start priming my gratefulness pump early for the holiday. That way I’m full of appreciation and it just has to come out all over the place. I’m a regular appreciation fountain this time of year.

I recommend it to you. I think you’ll like being grateful!

A deep bow of gratefulness to you for being in the world as you are giving me this opportunity to express myself here.

Blessings and love to you.
Suzanne

A Great Reminder!

Suzanne, this is a great time of year to reflect on all we have.  We know that in order to have more, we must cultivate a sense gratitude, for this is one of the universal law of success.
