Income Producing Activities vs Busy Body Ideals

It seems that the further and further we get into this technology age that we are in that it gets harder and harder to stay on task and prioritizing income producing activities over "busy body" activities.  Thinks about this for a few minutes.  I bet right now you have your cell phone on your hip or sitting beside you, you are checking or have checked your facebook, email, twitter, and anything other forms of social media that you have and if your anything like me you have checked it throughout the day also.

I am working on something that is changing the way that I work.  I am "prioritizing my actions" this year and sticking with it.  I guess you could say that this is a New Year's Resolution but to call it that would give me the opportunity to fail.  I have made up my mind that this is NOT going to fail!  You are saying that it is not a big deal and I shouldn't worry about it so much, right?  If you are thinking or saying this please read on.

There is a big difference in acting upon income producing activities vs busy body ideals.  What are some income activities?  Some income producing activities are:

Blogging

Placing Ads

Making phone calls to leads and prospects

Creating Videos

These are just a couple of "income producing activities" that you need to set aside time for each week.

Some of the main "busy body activities" that run through my mind at the moment are:

Checking Emails (over and over again)

Checking Facebook and Looking at all of the distractions that Facebook has to offer

Reading the latest tweets

Checking your latest text messages

The list could literally keep going and going!

How do you set priorities on income producing activities?

I learned a very important way of life through my mentor Andrew Cass.  That is the idea of scheduling.  Schedule your income producing activities ahead of time and do not let anything mess this schedule up.

-Write the schedule down where it can be seen and thought upon

-During the time that you have scheduled, turn your phone off, close Facebook, and devote 110% focused energy on the task at hand

-Keep notes.  (Keep notes on what you have gotten accomplished and where you need to pick up next time)

-Set a certain time limit for you to work on these activities. (Maybe  1 hour early in the morning)

-Keep it simple and work in small steps.  (By working in small steps you will get more accomplished than you thought possible looking at the big tasks in front of you)

-Reward yourself for small victories

There is a time and a place for the "busy body ideals" and these things must be done.  That is why scheduling "income producing activity time for yourself should be a #1 priority in your business.

What are your priorities this year?  Have you written them out? Do you know where to start?

I challenge you to create a list of your priorities and your goals for 2012 and then give your mentor a call and begin working towards these goals with your full focus at hand.  If you do not have a business mentor, I would be more than happy to help you also.
