3 years in business and the amazing $400 lead story

I just got off of a private webinar with Todd Falcone’s A-team, and am absolutely pumped for 2012, and that got me thinking back to 3 years ago today…

What I"m about to share with you is not the watered down version... it's the cold hard truth about what I went through my first 5 months online because you absolutely deserve to hear about the struggles as well as the success so you don't get let down by hype!

January 16th of 2009 is when I officially paid money to join a business opportunity because I finally worked up the courage to take a step into the unknown world of running my own network marketing business.

What I’m about to share with you is some of my struggles from my first 5 months online so you don’t have to go through the same thing I went through, because…

…after 5 months of marketing and having spent about $15,000 on my credit cards, I made a whopping $35 commission!

Does this sound at all familiar to you? It doesn’t have to.

The truth is that no matter what book you read or what system you get involved in you’re still going to have a learning curve to go through if you’ve never been involved in network marketing or internet marketing before, because most-likely this industry is entirely different from everything else you’ve ever done.

So the exact same day I joined my network marketing opportunity, which was actually a marketing system for a bigger direct sales company, I decided to build my own attraction marketing funnel at the same time.

You see I’d read a book by Ann Sieg called “The Renegade Network Marketer” which is a great book very much like Mike Dillard’s Magnetic Sponsoring book, and after reading it I realized that attraction marketing was going to be the way to go, because…

…8 years earlier I had been involved in an MLM called Excel for about 60 days and I struggled with the whole family approach and offline marketing approach, and honestly no one in my warm market trusted my business sense since I was completely broke and living in my parent's basement at the time.

So I decided that I was going to become a marketing mentor just like it said in the book and I was going to brand myself by creating my own attraction marketing funnel from scratch. What happened next is SCARY, and I’m glad it happened because now I can help you steer clear of the same problems I went through.

You see I knew nothing about the internet… up til this point I played games on Candystand and checked my hotmail account once a week or so. I didn’t even know what “a Facebook” was, nor did I know that I’d go on to achieve over $10k/month with Facebook as a big part of my marketing plan, but…

… I was going to follow this step-by-step ebook to teach me how to setup an attraction marketing funnel of my own from scratch!

I was going to learn:

Multiple different marketing strategies to generate quality leads

How to build websites of my own

How to put together training courses for my leads and team

How to create a free offer to give away in exchange for lead info

And a whole lot more that I didn’t yet know…

So I got to work...

...I started maxing out credit cards and applying for new ones just to keep the money flowing. I spent $500 on a training course, $400 on a website that I had to build myself, press releases, Thousands on Google PPC, $1200 on advertising (which only generated me 3 leads, that’s $400 a lead…OUCH!!!), and I kept spending money until I had to get another credit card.

You should actually ask me about the $1200 postcard mailing when you talk to me, because that was the last $1200 I had to spend, and it was absolutely devastating.

I built a pretty crappy website that really didn’t teach anyone anything about attraction marketing and didn’t even have a place for people to opt-in as a lead. I was over all completely confused after 5 months, and I was broke.

So what changed?

I realized I shouldn’t be building my own attraction marketing funnel when I didn’t even know how to generate leads of my own yet.

I decided that I had to find a mentor that could teach me how to effectively be an attraction marketer from a beginner’s standpoint.

So I sought out Brian Fanale, because he was a top earner in my company, and asked him what he was doing to become so successful online.

He pointed me towards MyLeadSystemPro, and I watched the videos on his website and loved the ideas.

MLSP was the solution I was looking for. It was the fully brand-able attraction marketing system that I was trying to build myself, only it was a whole lot better because it worked, it had the great training I was attempting to put together, and it even had the opt-in forms on the websites so I could generate leads...

But my head got in the way!

I just couldn’t bring myself to spend $1 to take the 2-week test-drive when I wasn’t sure how I would be able to pay for the $50/month subscription when the 2 weeks was up.

So I waited, and I waited, and I kept hearing about MLSP everywhere I went. Then I finally had a dramatic realization that I was thinking about the $50/month subscription all wrong.

I realized that rather than thinking about the fee in 2 weeks I should have simply committed to taking whatever actions necessary to make over $50 in that 2 week period so the monthly fee wasn’t a concern of mine anymore.

CRAZY CONCEPT… but it worked. I signed my first person up within a week… and had my first $500+ day selling affiliate products within 2 weeks.

Was it easy? NO!

BUT, it was a heck of a lot easier than attempting to build my own funnel and master the online world by myself.

Immediately after joining MLSP for $1 I got to work. It took me over 8 hours to setup the system, which doesn’t take more than 2 hours with their simplified setup now.

Then I immediately started following the marketing plan they put together even though I didn’t understand what I was doing. I was taking action and getting my capture page links out and talking to friends on Facebook, and doing the things that were required to get leads and get a decision from those leads as to whether they were interested in joining MLSP or not.

So why did I tell you all of this about my struggles, my doubts and fears, and why it took me so long to make such an easy decision about MLSP?

Because I know that you probably have had some similar situations or feelings in your first 6 months online, and I didn’t want to hype it up and tell you that I came online, found MLSP and without much work I made a ton of money.

In fact, 6 months after being in MLSP I almost had to shut my business down because of my own mental hang-ups on my success. My head was still getting in the way.

It wasn't until 18 months into MLSP that I was able to quit my job, which you can watch me doing right here!

So the truth of the matter is that success is a process not a destination. You will have to continually work at it so you don’t lose it.

And MLSP is truly the 1 guiding light that I’ve had by my side for a majority of the past 3 years of my business.
