How do you know when to give free information and when to make money selling information?

Earlier today a good friend and student of mine asked me when it’s a good time to make money selling information…
She asked me over on my “Ask Jordan” tab on my blog, because I truly want to know how to best serve you, my audience to get your business in profit as fast as you can. So today I’m going to share some of my personal insights and beliefs into when you should give away your information for free and when you should make money selling information.
Before I answer this question I’d like to tell you a little bit of a story. Back when I got started with attraction marketing I believed I had to give everything away for free, and that the only thing I could charge money for was other people’s information because I lacked belief in the value of what I knew and what I was teaching.
Then one night I was on a myleadsystempro Wednesday webinar with Daegan Smith where he was teaching us how to make money selling webinars. (I don’t mean selling something on a webinar, but rather make money selling information that you’re going to teach on a private webinar)
So I followed his step-by-step plan to make money selling information of my own, and we actually made somewhere around $800 selling a single webinar. The best part is not the $800 but the fact that my now good friend Tom Merkey told me he was excited that I was finally ready to make money selling information rather than just giving it all away for free.
So in answer to your question Nicky, when is it alright to make money selling information??
It’s alright to make money selling information as soon as you want your followers to start being serious about following you and listening to you. It’s great to give away free information all day long… I do it, and so should you.
The truth of the matter is that people are more committed when they pay for something, especially if they’re on a tight budget. The real question to ask yourself is “Does what I’m teaching have the potential to make this person more money then they’re paying to learn it from me provided they take action?”
**notice I underlined “provided they take action”, because most people will buy something then never get the intended result due to lack of action on their part, and you have to be ok with knowing that.
When you decide to make money selling information, you’ll be doing your list, your followers, and your students a HUGE FAVOR because they will be more committed to learning what you’re teaching once they pay you for it.
Your list will actually appreciate it when you decide to make money selling information because you’re their leader, and they too want to make money selling information, and if you’re brand new…
…start here by offering other people’s information and training until you’re ready to make money selling information of your own!
