Fearless Leadership Series2-No One To Blame

Today I was reminded of taking ownership of myself and business, and the power of role modeling.

We went to visit a local church, when it was time for sermon, the 50-year-old plus senior pastor greeted the audience (few thousands of us), and said “Many of have asked whether I am sick or not, as I became less (slimmer) recently, the answer is “no”, I am not sick, I merely just set a goal to lose some weight, I thought myself I at least should look the same as my driving license, so I lost over 50 lbs since January till now. “  The audience went wild and applauded him with respect!   He went on to say, “ Do you want to know my secret?”  He went on “I eat less and healthier, and I move more!”.

By then, in my heart I love this man’s attitude!  First of all, he didn’t “preach” about get yourself to be fit, he did it himself and just show up with result!  It left the audience with some choices or deep thoughts in my opinion.  The audience can either hear it, see it and think “well, it is good for him.”  Or they go home to review their own physical situation and make a decision to start taking care of their weight issues.  It’s powerful, the quiet self-disciplined role model trumps the multitude hearts!

Then he took a turn, spoke about how often we heard people or ourselves said “Life is not fair.”?  If you are a parent, you know what I am talking about..:) He used one of my favorite bible stories-The 3 servants and the master.  I called it stewardship story

The below I will paraphrased in modern language to illustrate: It talked about a master had 3 servants, each one of them had different talents and ability.  Before the master left for his long business trip, he gave each servant some money to work with, one he gave $5,000, one he gave $3,000, one he only gave$1,000.  By now, many people would say, “Hey, it is not fair, why the master gave different amount to the 3 servants!” , Right? If you read on the story, when the master came home, you know what happened?

He gathered all three of them, and let them present their result of what they have done with the money which they given. The guys who was given $5,000, he used it and made another $5,000, same as the one had $3,000, he multiplied it double as well;  the master was very pleased with both of them.  However, the guy who was given the least amount of $1,000, guess what he did? He dug a hole on the ground and hid the money! So now he still only had his $1,000.  The master was so angry, he took the $1,000 away, punished the servant, and gave the money to the one who already now had $10,000 as a reward!

The pastor reminded me of how often people (myself included) complained about our own failure is others’ fault, instead of use what we have, we bury it!  And wondering what we are not successful?!

By the way, what does “success” mean to you? It should be a internal competition rather an external ego building.  We are created all equal in worth and dignity, but we are given different talents and ability, to succeed is to ask a question to ourselves, “ What I have done with what I am given?”, and willing to go further and deeper in our lifetime, don’t you think so?

Hence, it will be a total waste of our time and energy in self-defending and self-justifying at those things and situations we know we didn’t take 100% ownership / responsibility for it.  Right? When the moment we are willing to stop blaming others, and willing to take responsibility of our life in all areas, for me, that’s when we can looking forward to success!

As I said in the beginning, I was reminded big time today again, willing to be humble and broken...and yet to be strengthened by knowing who I am in God, what I have been given, and WHY I need to succeed!  Life is so fair, if we live by DESIGN, not by circumstances!  When your WHY is big enough, your HOW doesn’t matter!

It is a heavy thought, but I trust you find it beneficial.  If so, please vote, share, tweet, I’ll appreciate much, and your loved ones will feel the same, too!

much love,
