"Persistence" Chapter 9 T&GR Lesson Plan
Upon my third attempt to read chapter 9, a paragraph on page 164 jumped out at me. Now Im sure I read it before, but, somehow it escaped me.
Dr Hill talks about the people who develop HABIT of PERSISTENCE. Hill says "No mattter how many times they are defeated, they finally rise up toward the top of the ladder." He likens it to a hidden Guide whose duty is to test men through all sorts of discouraging experiences." I know in life, this seems so true. How many times have we tried something, only to get roadblock after roadblock thrown in our faces.
I imagine the invisible, I'll say "troll" following me around watching me attempt something worthwhile that will enhance my life, and there he is. "You are too broke! You don't have the credibility! You cant get on that call, you have to work! Your wife won't support you! You need to spend more time with the family! and the list goes on.
Ok. Here is where the rubber meets the road. Of the things worthwhile that I have accomplished in my life, I have always had an excuse or reason to quit, and some really good ones.
This is where it really gets good. Dr. Hill goes on in this paragraph to say, "Those who pick themselves up after defeat and keep on trying, ARRIVE!!! And the world cries."
"The hidden Guide (Troll) lets no one enjoy great achievement without passing the PERSISTENCE TEST. Those who do not make it simply do not make the grade."
This one paragraph sums up what I think is the key to attaining what I desire. I keep failing forward. It does not matter what obstacles I encounter. As long as I keep working on myself I refuse to stop my advancement towards my goal, no matter how incremental the progress.
I keep moving forward till I can no longer move forward. I then move sideways for a while till I figure out the reason for my stagnation, them I move forward again. Kind of like moving the football down the gridiron. I run the ball, I pass, I get sacked, I get up and dust myself off. I keep pressure on the defense till they tire and weaken and the game is mine.
It is persistence. It is the decision that no matter the outcome, I will not accept failure.
The hidden Guard (Troll) knows beforehand, he must let you pass through, if you pass his little test. But in the process, he will never show his hand, his job is to convince you that you cannot pass. But you have a secret weapon. Knowledge.
I have in fact seen his playbook so to speak. The Mastermind group and the Mental Cleanse have readied me to face this ugly little guy.

Thats no Troll Kevin...
That's an illusion, you'd like to think that its a troll, but your mind is tricking you again! Make a joke out of it, dress it up in bonnet and diapers, put a pacifier in its nose! You can only laugh when you see it!
Stay the course
Without it you will not succeed. believe it or not there are major bumps in the road to success. if you do not persist you will never get over the bumps.
