Don’t Ever Ever Ever Ever Ever Ever Do This!!!! PLEASE!!

Here's a network marketing horror story for you.... And I swear, every part of it is true!

Okay, I’m just a tad ticked off now…..here’s what just happened: I get a message in my email inbox notifying me that someone has “commented on my profile” on one of the many MLM sites that I regularly network on. And I’m thinking “cool” – always great to get some constructive feedback from my peers…right?

So I log into my profile on the particular site, and what do you think I find? Well, I do not find a comment there on anything that I have posted but – get this – some guy has posted a picture of HIMSELF, a pitch for HIS opportunity (several paragraphs in fact) together with a link to HIS website, smack dab on the middle of MY page – in the “comments section” -- in the midst of MY pictures, links and articles! His “note” is so big that it actually takes up more than one-third of the space in my profile!!!!!

That's right -- MY profile!!

What on earth was he thinking????!!!

To make matters worse (if they can get any worse at this point…I don’t know), he doesn’t open his “comment” with any kind of personal greeting…he just jumps right into talking about himself and his business...and nowhere does he call me by my personal name... What this tells me is that the guy is trying to save time and maximize his exposure by posting the same “comment” in lots of different places. (Probably in lots of people’s profiles.) Yikes.

Another thing I can instantly tell from his posting is that he hasn’t as much as looked at my website. Because if he had, he would have known:

1. That I’m very happy with and successful in my own business, and not looking for other opportunities.

2. That I practice Attraction Marketing/Magnetic Sponsoring, and that I, as a matter of fact, loathe the kind of “marketing” he is engaging in.

Right away, I also know two very specific things about him as a person:

1. He’s not very successful (yet) in his business, or he wouldn’t need to be posting his pitches in the profiles of other networkers.

2. He’s primarily interested in recruiting me to build his business, and doesn’t care a whole lot about me and what I need – or he would have taken the time to read about me to find out where I was coming from and how he could best help me.

As you have probably guessed by now, I did not exactly scramble to this guy’s website to sign up for his opportunity…

All that said, I wanted to share this experience with you not only because it is so horrendous it is laughable, but so that it could serve as a reminder -- mainly for those of you that are new to network marketing -- of how you don’t want to go about marketing yourself and your business.

It’s always a good idea to try to put yourself in the other person’s shoes and ask yourself how YOU would feel if you were being approach in that manner.

And now that I’ve let off some steam, what I’m going to do is send this gentleman a nice email and politely ask him to remove his pitch from my profile. Who knows, maybe I’ll even throw in an invitation for him to come check out our Magnetic Sponsoring Community… He might learn a thing or two here ;)

Hi Lena

I totally know what you mean. Here is the e-mail I send people when they spam me...Thanks for the offer, but as you can see from my profile, I mentor, coach and train people. Possibly you could learn some things that can help you.

Have a great day!

That's when you should market the MS course right back! People drive me nuts even with subtle opportunity offers. Sheese, get to know me before you kiss me!!! ;D

Not so subtle ...

If I pitch on your profile will I get a nice email with an invitation too?
:D

I guess its same principle as the spammers use, send enough emails out and someone will give you their bank account number so you can deposit a billion dollars in it :-\

Rude guy

Hello there, Lena.  I liked the professional way that you handled the "intrusion".  I also liked that your accounting of it can serve others.  I believe a lot of our job is education, don't you?  Boy, I am currently in the "being educated" seat regarding online friend-making.  I like it so far, just do the fact that everyone I've met, seems to have either been brought up well or have learned how to exhibit good manners.  :0)  Lisa Alexander was so funny....."get to know me before you kiss me."  LOL
