There are five friends standing at the corner of a busy street trying to decide on a restaurant for dinner. There is a mix of suggestions given by everyone, but there is usually the same person that pipes up, makes their suggestion and everyone automatically agrees and makes their way together to the restaurant selected. Leadership qualities are present in our day to day lives, at all ages, in all different ways. Whether its deciding on a restaurant with friends or making decisions in parliament. When you decide to become an online entrepreneur you are your brand and you need to access your leadership style and be willing to develop it further.

‘AA’ stands for an annoying amateur. An annoying amateur is a online business owner that comes across as needy by sending your spam 24-7. The AA doesn’t understand or have any consideration to their potential customer’s need and their whole focus is the sale and their “sales pitch” which leaves the potential customer disengaged, weary and uncomfortable.

A successful leader has qualities that inspire people to follow but by allowing them to make the choice to do so, its never about chasing people down. You do this by having strong morals, integrity and being willing to ‘talk the talk and walk the walk’. Be the example by presenting your business in the way you would like your team to represent their business. To influence others you need to understand them and their needs and have a win/win situation that can help both of you.

Do you know what your customers concerns are?

Do you know how your product and service can help your customers with their needs?

WIIFM (What’s in it for me?) is a natural inclination we all have and is the question we ask when we come across something new. A successful leader doesn’t ignore or disregard others interests, they take a lot of time in understanding how they can help fulfil those needs because people will be drawn to you if you have the answers and fulfil a need.

Stand out from the crowd

We all have a story to tell, a mixture of life experiences that are totally unique to others. The internet is one big party filled with millions of people, you need to be competitive by literally standing out. You need to convey who you are, what you believe and people will naturally be drawn to you. It doesn’t even have to be in what you say it’s all about how you say it.

Compare any two singers that have performed on American Idol. Compare two performances where one person was more confident than the other. The nervous singer makes their performance uncomfortable to watch whereas the confident singer makes their performance memorial and enjoyable to watch. Of course you want to be around people that make you comfortable.

Being a leader of your own business needs you to have a strong sense of purpose, determination and integrity. These qualities are no different to the singers performing. Your potential customers will be able to instinctively recognise these qualities and be drawn to you. Continually refine your message and how you portray what you want to say to help become an exceptional leader.
