Do I need a business card for my home-based business?
What do most people in the “real” business world carry? A BUSINESS CARD!
As a home-based business owner, do you carry your own business card? If not, you should reconsider that for several reasons.
1. When someone asks for your contact information – you have it right there in your wallet or purse
2. If you have cards made up for various products/opportunities you promote, you can leave them in places where people will see them and pick them up.
3. A real business card in your hand is just another reminder that your have a REAL business – sometimes we need these little reminders.
So, if you are doing this on a budget there are options.
- Y0u can make your own business cards by picking up blank card sheets (Avery makes a bunch) and printing your own.
- You can use an inexpensive service such as Vista Print, which offers a lot of free stuff – you just pay the shipping.
It is another easy and inexpensive way to reach your market. I drop them into books, leave stacks on counters in coffee shops,
put them in home-based business and entrepreneur trade publications – y0ou name it. I love to leave them in airports too, you
never know where your card may land ![]()
You may need to drop a lot of cards before you hear from someone, and I would never use this as a sole means
of advertising, but it is certainly another way to reach more people!

Why Carry A Business Card?
I think it's a great idea to have business cards. It's much more professional than trying to scribble your info down on a shred of paper. It's also more impressive.
And yet, I don't carry business cards anymore.
Here's why.
Text DK1 to 90210, and you'll get my digital business card. If you enter your email into the box on my card, you will download all of my info into your address book automatically. Cool, huh?
Not only that, it's cheaper than buying cards, and I can change it whenever I want and not have to scratch out my old phone number or whatever on my paper cards because I still have 400 of the 500 left.
While I believe an entrepreneur should have a card, I think that there are new and better ways to handle it. It's part of the new mobile marketing revolution.
Of course, you can't drop a digital card in an airport. :)
Great article on how a simple business card can bring in business.
Why Carry a Business Card
Good article. I am going to AGREE with Dave on this one.
While carrying a business card is important, most people will not make the first move and call you. Instead, you might try asking the other person for THEIR business card and setting up a time to call them. If they ask for yours, tell them that you are temporarily out of stock and write down their name and phone number. Then, make sure you call them. Or collect business cards from places that allow you to drop them off. That usually works better for me.
Enjoy your day.
