SEO and Social Media

I spent much of the afternoon listening to Raymond Fong and Ferny Ceballos' excellent 8 part video series "SEO Networker."  It's eye-opening and highly instructive for both newbie and networking old-timer.  Fong and Ceballos are active members of BetterNetworker.com and group leaders in the SEO Networker group.  Thanks, guys, for sharing so much good information!

The course is a precurser to their 8 week SEO course that is accepting students through Feb. 2, but people who aren't able to attend the course will still get lots of free content on SEO and social media just by viewing the preview video series.

I found particularly useful the information on Google's intentions. There is lots of evidence that Google is arming to dominate the social media so they can control web information resources.  This is not necessarily a bad thing.  As always, Google is interested in ranking most highly sources that create real buzz and value.  Fong and Ceballos' efforts are to help networkers provide Google what it wants most and to avoid the kinds of behavior that tend to get slapped by the Big Guy.

Behaviors such as reciprocal linking are now frowned upon. Spamming on social sites is being watched carefully by Google and will eventually get the big boot-- and soon.

Words to the wise: develop your social media profiles and be good network contributors of real content and you'll fare well against the next slap.

Great Overview

Hey Liz,

Excellent overview. Looks like you've got it and understand what's going on.

Thanks for spreading the word for us. Your "mindshare" is very much appreciated.  Look forward to watching you implement what you've learned.

It's lonely being the only 2 SEO guys. ;)  Maybe we need an SEO gal...

Best,

Ferny
