Building a home business: tips from a turtoise and a hare
You may be wondering what a turtoise and a hare have in common with building a home business…
Is there something to learn from these two little animals?
Bare with me for a second…
I was studying this morning more about the habits and actions that create success in business and life .
Thus, I “accidentally” found a story I learned while I was 7 or 8 years old- a perfect example for today’s message.
It’s about “ The hare and the Tortoise”, a fable created by a smart guy, Aesop, around 600 BC ![]()
Let’s see how it relates to building a home business:
A hare one day made himself merry over the slow pace of the tortoise, vainly boasting of his own great speed in running.
The tortoise smiled at the hare and replied, “Let us try a race. We shall run from here to the pond and the fox out yonder shall be the judge.”
The hare agreed and away they started together. True to his boasting the hare was out of sight in a moment.
The tortoise jogged along with a slow, steady pace, straight towards end of the course.
Full of sport, the hare first outran the tortoise, then intentionally fell behind chuckling at the tortoise all the while.
Having come nearly to the goal, the hare began to nibble at the young plants.
I'm almost done...
After a while, the day being warm, he lay down for a nap, saying: “The tortoise is behind me now. If he should go by, I can easily enough catch up.”
When the hare awoke, the tortoise was not in sight.
Running as fast as he could, the hare found the fox congratulating the tortoise at the finish line.
Tips for building a home business from Aesop’s fable
- The majority of people, come online like the turtoise- terribily slow and unprepared, with no clue about building a home business, generating leads, blogging or prospecting.
Once arrived they find here a lot of “hares” more skilled and successful than they are.
Don’t dwell in doubt or discouragement. You can turn your disadvantages into massive success by creating new rituals.
- The tortoise won the race not because of its mighty speed but mainly because of consistency in doing little steps with the finish line ahead.
No matter what is the skill/ income level you have now don’t compare yourself with the 7-8 figure earners.
They have their race and you have yours.
You just have to define your small steps (rituals for building your home business) and stay consistent with them while having your vision/goals in mind.
Call it the “Compound effect” or whatever you choose, it will always work-in your favor or against you.
- Make every task easy to handle by breaking it in manageable pieces, from writing a blog post to making new connections or emailing your list.
-if you are naturally talented in one or more areas of your business, don’t be like the hare.
Keep improving yourself and more important, do things on time. Procrastination defeats your purpose and the other entrepreneurs will do their best to improve their businesses.
Talent dies without what Tony Robbins calls CANI-constant and never ending improvement.
