The curse of automation is damaging your home based business?
Automation is a word that describes perfectly the world we live in today and a home based business makes no exception.
We wanted leverage…thus, autoresponders and sales funnels came into play.
We wanted more time for socializing… thus, applications for scheduling our posts and updates on social media appeared.
Almost every task related to your home based business can be automated or outsourced as easy as saying BOOM ![]()
Automation it’s a blessing you might say.
It’s popular ?
You bet.
It is really helpful?
Yes and No.
In fact, the line between a blessing and a curse is very thin.
Why?
Simply because, now (more than ever) in a world of technology and speed people want more than a darn automated email that says “welcome to my list”, a copy -paste blog post or an ancient welcome video.
They are sick and tired to see their inbox infested every day with robotic messages or being attacked on Facebook with a nasty message like ” We are in prelaunch, 1 million $ paid so far, Join now”.
So, what people want to see?
A human being who cares about them.
A person who has the courage to jump from the safe space of their computer and talk freely.
A person who is not afraid to be authentic, with pluses and minuses.
Just think about it!
There are tons of articles, videos, blog posts, systems or membership sites out there that teaches you bassically the same stuff: blogging, seo, copywriting, network marketing, how to get more sales with your home based business, social media yada, yada, yada.
Why we are not all multi millionaires then with all the automation and resources?
Because we need the most important skill…the skill of being a human.
The most influential home based business owners and marketers, are not automation/technology addicts.
They are on the “field” engaging with people, personalizing the information they share and making things unique. That’s why they have so many people who support them.
People want the feeling, the aura which follows them everywhere.
I’m not saying that you should not use a certain social media tool or an autoresponder series.
In the beginning I wanted to automate everything: email, posts, sending the same ” Hi, I saw you in the group X, let’s connect” on Facebook, including my thinking. It’s ok, but I felt that there is no passion, no impact and ultimately no growth. I changed my approach and heck, it feels way more better.
Seek to add a human touch to everything you do online.
Call your leads or at least send them a personal message, if they don’t leave a phone number. Listen yo what they have to say. It matters a lot! Why focusing on convincing them to join your home based business? It only creates more resistance.
Learn from as many business leaders as possible but don’t copy them…use your unique personalityand creativity to be different.
When connnecting with somebody one Facebook, Twitter or Linked In take 2 extra minutes to study their interests and create a message which is more personal + friendly.
Final thoughts
Automation is good but it won’t solve your problems.
It’s all about relationships here.
The success of your home based business be it MLM, affiliate marketing or selling your own stuff lies in your uniqueness (personal branding if you want) and also in the ability to build meaningful relationships with your prospects.
What is your experience with automating your home based business?
It was fun or a “curse” ?
What are your ideas for humanizing our businesses?
I’d love to hear your feedback and suggestions.
