How you might hurt your home based business
Just like the tons of success recipes, tips, guru products to help you with your home based business, there are proven methods to hurt it.
Every right has a left, every up has a down. It’s law!
In many cases we come up with a solution or change the way we build our businesses, only when it’s too painful to endure.
But pain is not and won’t be a good motivator for achieving a certain result, never ever. In fact, it creates even more pain and frustration.
Thus, here are some “strategies” I used (unconsciously most of the times) to hurt my business along with the lessons I learned so that you can increase your awareness and make your learning curve shorter:
3 proven methods to hurt your home based business
1. Trying to be everything for everyone
It may seem very noble or spiritual to please everyone with our services, skills, time etc.
But think about this …. By focusing your attention in every corner of this huge “home business arena” , wanting to make it work for everybody will drain you of power…
Especially if they don’t want/don’t need your products or services. This leads to desperation and you easily enter in the “pitching zone”.
Why not helping/working with someone who resonates with you and is already looking for a solution?
Lesson learned: Even if your home based business has a certain direction , let’s say MLM, don’t let it to be general. Find your sub-niche and a specific category of people who need your service.
Learn everything about them.
You don’t have to travel very far to find your niche. As my friend Bob Clarke said in a great post, just look in the mirror. I’m 22 and just finished the college.
Thus, I will focus primarily on serving young folks like me who struggle with their businesses or would like to become entrepreneurs, leaving at the same time the door open for everybody else.
2. Wanting to learn everything from everyone
With so much information that is posted online daily ( and counting) acting in this manner leads to mental/emotional breakdown. Guaranteed!
The same thing is with trying to follow every leader out there, each one with a different opinion and strategy.
Lesson learned: Find one marketing strategy you truly enjoy and focus on it until mastery.
There is nothing more powerful for your home based business than having a clear direction while doing something you love now.
Secondly, listen only to few leaders who are experts in that strategy and have the results you seek.
As a result, I decided to focus on blogging/writing and learn constantly from Ray Higdon and Mavis Nong- 2 fantastic marketers and bloggers ![]()
3. Others are right and I’m wrong/ Others are better than me
Sounds silly, but it happens…and when it does it simply kills what’s best in you.
It’s very destructive to compare yourself with others who at this moment are doing it better than you in different areas of business/life.
Lesson learned: Just because others are branding themselves better or have better skills it doesn’t mean you’re wrong or you can’t achieve that level.
Learn and model the successful entrepreneurs but don’t ever forget that you have unique gifts to share with the world.
Encourage your creativity without falling in the trap of “I need to make my post perfect…
seek to make your content original.add some feeling to it and a big smile ![]()
You’ll notice the difference.
Also, test and experiment one step at a time. From all the strategies and approaches choose what works best for you.
