OVERCOMING ADVERSITY

I was having a conversation last week with a dear friend of mine, Bob Wilson. Bob is a 57 year old man who has 30 years of experience inside of the direct-selling industry and has done quite well. By most considerations Bob is a very talented and distinguished individual - great speaker, fearless of people, and loves to public speak - three traits almost anyone would love to possess.

Bob is also a remarkable human being because he has always strived to gain more out of life, never settling for mediocrity, all while remaining humble enough to what life can teach us.

Business related, Bob is associated with two of my companies and is doing tremendously well. In particular, the last 60 days while we have worked on a very large project, our relationship together has really grown and elevated.

While we were having a conversation about life in general, Bob said to me, "You know Jenny, it is funny how life works. I've been through so much drama and adversity the past 20 years - my business that went under, my divorce, my fiancé leaving me, that one business partner who used me, yet in hindsight, those events seem like they lead up to us meeting and building the relationship we have built and sharing the exciting times that lie ahead. I wouldn't exchange the adversity I've gone through for the world."

Whether Bob knew it or not at the time, what he shared with me was quite profound and sparked in me a relation to failure that I had never experienced before on that level. You see, what Bob was referring to was that all his failures and setbacks in the past two decades had to have happened to him in order for him to be exactly where he is today.

In other words, his failures, which seemed like nightmares at the time, were actually perfectly placed in the grand scheme of things - a totality and harmony inside of a perceived chaos or struggle.

For example, when you enter a jungle it can easily be perceived as chaotic and disorderly - from the trees, to the birds, to the animals, to the reptiles, to the plants, to the weeds, to the decay, to the birth, and to the death all around. To us it seems purposeless and disarrayed, yet in reality that rain forest is acting in perfect harmony with a greater source - a totality, if you will.

The bottom line is that no matter what has happened in your past - the good, the bad, the successes, the failures, the pain, and the pleasure, it has all actually been one large success because it has led you perfectly and soundly to the present moment where you have a world of opportunity that now rests in front of you.

Being humble to life is realizing there is, in fact, no failure. Failure is a perception we have generated and is no different than looking at the chaos that lies within a rain forest.

Embrace the present moment while being intentional with what you will build in the months and years ahead, and you will live a life of success, wealth, and fulfillment.

I agree

I agree. There is no failure to life. Life is all what you make it. Just simply doing your best and seizing an opportunity when you see it is power.
